"So you're kinda of like Rogue, uh?"

The minute that the words slip out of her mouth, Dawn realizes that she probably should have kept her mouth shut. It's her lack of tack that keeps Buffy from seriously considering her as a Watcher. The older woman's lips twist into a sneer and Dawn's suddenly afraid of what she'll do. Buffy had warned her that Gwen Raiden was rather volatile.

"I'm sorry that was rather stupid of me, I am sure that if someone in your, uh, position likes to have that type of comparison made. It's just the gloves kind of made me think of Rogue and she's pretty awesome, well in the comics at least," Dawn says. "Great, I am just making this worse aren't I?"

Gwen surprises her by laughing. Dawn looks at her and for a moment, she waits for the other shoe to drop. When it doesn't, she gives the thief a smile.

"Come on kid, our train is boarding."

Dawn follows Gwen and tries to focus on the gloves or the fact that Buffy had warned her from touching the other woman. Yet she can't seem to shake the comparison once it's in her head. She tells herself that she's supposed to be a professional and that comparing Gwen to a fictional mutant is like comparing Spike to Lestat. (Although she sometimes wonders if he's real because after all Dracula's real and well she's on that thought, she wonders if maybe there's other mutants out there, just waiting for their own Professional X.)

She bumps into Gwen, which causes the thief to turn around. Gwen merely looks at her before continuing and Dawn follows, gratefully that Gwen didn't say anything. She's starting to wonder why Buffy even sent her on this mission. There supposed to collect a Watchers' Council relic that's fallen into the wrong hands. Surely if she's not mature enough to be a Watcher, then she's certainly not mature enough to go out on missions. Especially with thieves that possess such a dangerous air about them like Gwen does. It doesn't help that Gwen's rather hot either. (Not that Dawn would admit that to anyone.)

They sit down across from one another on the train and Dawn tries to find something to focus on other than the bare strip of Gwen's skin that's between her short top and her low cut pants. Yet she can't seem to find anywhere else to look, her eyes keeping dragging back to that spot and she has to wonder what it'd feel like if she were to touch Gwen there.

"You know, if it's your angle to pretend we're girlfriends, it might actually work," Gwen states.

Dawn can feel her face go red. And she mumbles a response before she gets up and escapes to the bathroom with Gwen's laughter ringing in her ears. She can't understand why she's acting this way. She braces herself against the sink and looks into the mirror. before she can respond the door is being pushed open and Gwen's there. The room suddenly seems cramped and tiny. For a moment, Dawn's afraid of what Gwen will do to her.

Instead of attacking her, Gwen pulls off a glove and Dawn is entranced with each inch of skin that's bared. When Gwen holds out her hand, Dawn doesn't hesitate to take it.

Nothing happens. For a moment, Dawn's disappointed. And then she feels it. It's hard to explain but she can feel the power beneath Gwen's skin. She looks up at Gwen in surprise. Gwen smirks at her before she pulls Dawn closer and then presses their lips together. It's a heady rush unlike anything she's ever felt before. When Gwen pulls away and lets her go, Dawn's embarrassed by the needy sound she makes.

"Angel told me that you were a Key of some sort. Wanna bet this, " Gwen says as she waves a hand between them, "Is because of the power in you and the power in me?"

"I don't think I care," Dawn says as she pushes Gwen up against the door and kisses her again.

It's Gwen who breaks the contact between them, this time both of them are panting and Dawn feels a rush of pride that she could make Gwen look all flustered.

"I don't think here and now are that great of an idea. Not that I don't want to but I can barely hang onto my control."

Dawn nods in understanding. The air in the small bathroom feels just like it does when an electrical storm's about to come. And as addictive as she finds Gwen, Dawn's not quite ready to find out what will happen if Gwen looses control.

"Good thing we've got a week," Dawn says with a smirk of her own.
