motivations, and a very dull cleaning list

the best way to get your house tidy is to have people visit.

the best way to get your house clean is to have people stay overnight!

(sometimes. this theory did not work for Thanksgiving.)

David's cousin and her hubby are stopping through today on the way to somewhere else. will be staying the night. they pass through the CR area periodically, and have periodically talked about stopping for a visit or dinner, but it hasn't ever happened. but it appears this one actually will happen.

the house... well, the house has been in need of some major work for a while. and now some of that work has finally been done. much to Randy's discomfiture. David and I both took the day off work yesterday and cleaned. all day. well, most of the day. much of the day?

for several hours, anyway.

we also slept in a bit, went out for lunch, got haircuts, and I facilitated an adult ed group at church last night. so... not quite all day.

anyhow, the TV room looks good. we not only dusted and vacuumed, but also rearranged the furniture. I should just figure that rearranging furniture should figure into these sorts of activities when David is involved. he's the furniture rearranger in the family.

living room dusted and vacuumed. we already tidied earlier in the week. we tidied everything right out of the room! it's now, for the first time in probably a year, an almost empty room again, now that the dinner table has been moved back into the dining nook. I put the pictures back on the shelves, too, so it looks pretty nice in there.

dining nook is better now that we've moved the phone stand out and moved the hutch thing over. there's more space to sit at the table. and now the phone stand is over by the piano... holding the phone!

kitchen tidied and swept and the floor scrubbed. even under the stove, which I discovered was quite a mess! throw rugs washed.

bedroom tidied, dusted, and vacuumed. the half bath fixtures were scrubbed. Randy objected to having his blankies folded neatly into a rectangular bedlike object, and nested his stuff into a messy heap during the night.

oh yeah, Randy's blankies were all washed. we finally got rid of the one bed last week, because it was hopelessly trashed and getting foam bits everywhere. he's talented.

bathroom fixtures and tub scrubbed. floor swept and scrubbed. David got to do the bathtub this time. I'm usually the one who cleans the bathroom, but my right shoulder has been hurting me, and I didn't think I was up for scrubbing. he wasn't keen on the scrubbing and swearing approach, though, so he went out and bought some chemicals. bad, David. well, so far he's only used the "earth friendly" cleaner, so we're still okay.

if we're thinking about it being a real spring cleaning, we still need to wash the curtains in all the rooms, and also clean the office, the ex-office, the basement, and the windows. and we both work hard at ignoring the patio whenever we go in the back door. BUT, this will do for now...

we're talking about the possibility, after we pay off a couple things, of buying an actual living room set and putting some actual living room furniture in the actual living room. but that'll be a bit in the future. because after we pay off a couple things, we also have to have the house exterior painted. and we need to address some issues with the gutters. and those big bushes need to go. and we need a shed in the backyard because our garage is just too small for yard implements, and....
