The only thing I can tell you is this: I was not with my dad or my sister when or shortly before they died, for sound, practical reasons that made total sense at the time. But I'll regret it for the rest of my life and I doubt what's left of my family will ever forgive me.

That being said, I was an hour or two away by car, not across the States. So I can't really compare my experience to yours.
