Simon came home early on Friday and we set off down to Sheringham. Alex was fairly happy in the front until he fell asleep, and even happier to be woken up for his favourite- fish and chips! He then insisted on coming in the back with me for the last hour to Sheringham, wouldn't talk to our hosts and then quickly went to sleep!
On Saturday morning Alex was much more friendly with Roger and Margaret and we spent a couple of hours there before to the beach, Alex was happy so I went shopping! Nothing more exciting then tea and thrush tablets. I asked for 2 to dose Simon too and the assistant had to go and check with the pharmacist before giving them too me, someone should tell her that a stage whisper when you are trying to be discreet is a lot less subtle then a normal conversation!
We all met up for lunch at a very nice farm shop, we will be going back! However, as I had to remove splinters from his fingers and he wanted to run round with his cousins he didn't settle well to his lunch! We then headed off to Blakeney to the hotel, and I sent Alex and Simon out while I unpacked and inflated beds, etc. Simon and Andrew went crab fishing, and Andrew caught loads of Crab, while Simon caught two, but failed to net them! Alex kept rubbing it in by saying "where are our crabs Daddy?", as did Rory and Jack! When we got back to the hotel I found they'd booked the table for 6:30, intending to eat at 7. When I pointed Alex would have had a melt down by then I was made to feel totally unreasonable and Eric started fussing again. Janet suggested I feed Alex by himself then bath him and put him to bed, but when the hell was I supposed to eat?? I managed to persuade them to order at 6 and eat at 6:30, but only Simon, Alex and I managed it. We three ate at 6:15, and by the time I'd got him bathed, bedded and read his story and got back down they were just finishing so we all had pudding together.
On Sunday we went back to the Quay, booked some boat tickets and Eric, Andrew, Jack, Rory, Alex and I took a trip to see the seals at Blakeney point. Alex loved it, and was pretty good on the boat. We then went off to the North Norfolk Railway and had a ride from Holt to Weybourne and had lunch and a walk to see the bluebells. Andrew then took his car off to get all the shit off it, as the local birds seemed to like a BMW, and we went to Cromer to take Alex on the beach. It rained, but he didn't care! We had Lynda and Eric with us and they went for a look round, then we had a trip to Baconsthorpe castle where we saw a pair of goldeneyes on the moat, and on to the Pigs for dinner. I was disappointed to find they hadn't put us in the family room, but as Rory was being so good with Alex it didn't matter as they could go to the playroom without us. Its just a shame they couldn't use the adventure play ground as it was raining still.
On Monday the boys went back to catch more crabs while I packed. The tide was running right, so they were hauling out 4-5 at a time! Simon even caught some. After that the boys all went to Holkham beach, and Janet, Lynda and I went shopping in Holt. It was quite nice to just wander round, but Lynda is so slow in shops! I got a new bag and an ice cream maker in charity shops, some floor cushion covers and a replacement pair of blue moonstone earrings to replace the ones I lost half of! Not a bad morning, then we had lunch all together at Holkham, and set off home.
We managed to hit a new brewery and Beers of Europe on the way back. Alex was happy up front with Simon again. It was a long drive home, so we stopped for pizza and got home at 8, not too bad, but we were all exhausted!
Tuesday morning I had to go to Sainsbury's as there was no food in the house, and Alex was pretty good. Then Earwigs was the sum total of our activities for the day. We actually had some new parents!
On Wednesday Alex went to Ladybirds, and I went to the Range to buy some bits for the Earwigs gardens. When I got Alex back we went to the Children's centre to dig over the beds, put in some tomatoes and plant seeds. It took far longer then expected, but the soil was rock hard! Still, its done with for a while.
Yesterday we went out to the New Earswick nature reserve, now my key has arrived. It was wonderful, big trees, big lake, bird song, wild flowers and not much else! Locking ourselves in was lovely, and Alex enjoyed the walk round too, especially all the tadpoles we found and the bird hide. We were inside all afternoon as it was raining after a lovely sunny morning, and I was trying to sort out Simon's mix tape of old tracks off his taped now albums. After I'd worked out it was going to cost £30 per album, I managed to get the tape to MP3 converter I bought Simon for Yule ages ago up and running. I'd forgotten what recording tapes is like, especially without high speed dubbing! I hope he appreciates the effort I've put in.
Alex is now at his Granny's, and was happy to see me leave, and I'm doing one last tape before setting off down to Aylesbury for Juliet's wedding. It should be a good weekend.
