Yesterday was quite a nice day. Mum and Dad arrived as we were bringing a trolley full of wood back with Alex riding high on top, so that was him happy. We spent another day gardening, this time digging artichokes and I had a play with Mum's Rotavator. It does a good job but its hell on the shoulders. I spent some of the afternoon cooking for all of us, and scrubbing artichokes. The family dinner would have been really nice if Alex had not been so very tired, and messing about rather then eating. Still, he went to sleep well, and I woke up at 5:50, having had a straight 7 hours sleep. Its just a shame I woke up with really bad cramps, thanks periods. Simon got Alex up and dressed again, while I had a lie in. He is well up on nappy changes this year! They then had a blazing row when Alex wanted to come up and see me and Simon wouldn't let him disturb me. If he gets too rabid with me I just leave him to it and talk to him when he has calmed down. Simon argues with him, then dumps him in his bed as a punishment, something I have asked him not to do repeatedly as I don't want Alex to think of his bed as punishment! A good dead undone. I took Alex off round to Mum and went back and failed to have a sensible discussion with Simon about it, as we were both too annoyed. He just doesn't get how to deal with an irate toddler, or why I don't want him to use Alex's bed as punishment, or that he needs a clear goal of what he hopes/is likely to achieve. How he can says that Alex has not been punished for a tantrum when he is so upset he is sobbing shaking I really don't know. Arrggghh! I don't want to undermine Simon's authority, but I can't stand by and watch him treat Alex like that.
Anyhow, we then went back in the garden with Mum and did more digging and playing with Jack, who is settling in really nicely. I only had to fight down a bit of nausea!
Danielle arrived off the 10:20 train and we finally got our war time round up. I think she has got the hint that was have it all totally under control and we can be left too it. Neil's eyes fair lit up at the thought of the challenge of doing British 1914 next year for the WWI Centenary. When his eyes glaze over like that, interesting things happen!
That took 2 hours, then it was lunch time, and I quickly made the artichoke soup. Alex actually ate with us as he'd gone off with his Dad. Normally he eats with Mum, and last week when I took his dinner in boxed up from the day before he went a bit loopy, crying he didn't want that lunch and getting quite upset. We eventually calmed him down enough to get out of him that he wanted a plate!!
After lunch we went back out in the garden with Mum and as I was feeling a hell of a lot better I helped Dad destroy a fence and smash up a window. Then I had another conversation with our new volunteer special events organisers, who ask a lot of questions, but at least they are intelligent and relevant ones.
This evening's meal was a nice simple chilli and a cherry bakewell tart, and they appear to be causing me no more cramps. I'll just keep my fingers crossed for another 7 hours sleep.
