After a 1:15 AM phone call about Simon's grandpa having a fall (he is fine!), and deciding Janet and Eric didn't need to go back to Sheffield to look after him, Eric took Alex off, Janet went shopping and I went back to bed. Alex had a great day, especially as Eric took him to see Union of South Africa as it passed through New Earswick.
When we went to the pub in the evening I was intending to take it gently, but after a big steak, a glass of wine and chocolate tort I felt a lot better!
On Saturday morning Eric and Janet showed up and took Alex off to Sandsend for the day. They didn't bring him back 'til 17:45. That just left me with the booking office to man and dinner for 15 to cook! I actually managed to lie down for an hour as Alex had a bad night, but that made me feel worse. Still, I got it all done, beef bourgingnon, duaphinoise potatoes and apple crumble for 15.
Phillip Benham came down to discuss Simon's resignation but he still won't back down. Unfortunately he wasn't watching the chaos he was causing by not letting people use the signal box crossing gate. Idiot.
Saturday evening was fun, with us and the family weekend volunteers all eating in the cottage. The wine was flowing rather easier then it should have been, but it was a good night.
On Sunday morning I was still feeling rough, and just slightly hung over, but Eric and Janet took Alex off on the train to Pickering while I was on the Booking Office again. Fergus turned up to man the level crossing, poor guy looks hollow and a bit lost, but it is only a month since his wife died of cancer. He'll get there, hes got the right attitude and lots of help.
During Alex's nap Eric and Janet snuck off, so we spend the afternoon 'helping' the junior volunteers and Simon. After Alex had helped reduce the ice cream stock in the weigh Bridge of course!
Today we've been over to Clifton to help Jo Ro train some interns, but as Cath and I had to come back to New Earswick for a meeting we missed the afternoon session. The meeting at the Sure Start Centre was interesting, Angela was trying to be negative and put us off, but it only strengthened our resolve! We won't get the group back up until January unfortunately, which is a blow, but we will move forward with CRBs and training, so at least things will be moving.
This afternoon Mum and Dad got back, so Alex was happy. Dad and Simon have gone off to the York Area group meeting, so Mum and I are watching Dr. Who!
