The skirt report

Feb 05, 2008 14:03

as i stated i purchased a skirt from Modest Clothing (which is having web page problems and is selling from their old site, Tznius dot com until they get it fixed)

so i gave the black corduroy wrap skirt the "real life" test...

This is a wrap skirt, 40 inches long, in black corduroy.  The corduroy turned out to be lighter, finer, and more drape able than i expected , which is good.  the down side to that is it isn't as warm as i thought it would be.  My husband initially thought it was velvet because it has very fine cords, and the dull finish.

now bearing in mind it is a wrap skirt, i made a point of doing fast walks, sitting, car drives, etc.
i had NO problem walking in it.  It had plenty of leg room, and it did not open up under those circumstances. i did have a bit of an issue with some high winds trying to make it unwrap, but i expect any skirt would have some problems.  i had the usual problems with the car, mostly getting in and out without flashing anyone..... nothing new there.  As to sitting...... yesterday i had a small amount of trouble with the wrap opening up when i crossed my legs. today i solved that by moving the wrap further to one side.  i still keep an eye on it when i cross my legs, but otherwise its ok.

it doesn't look like a wrap skirt.
whouseknecht (husband) noticed the "oh it ties in back" part.. but didnt notice the wrap part until i showed him.  The other girls in last nights class didn't notice it was a wrap either.

it looks pretty flattering on me, i think.

structurally its a very simple skirt.  no pleats or seams, but it is angled at the ends a bit so the basic skirt is sort of trapezoidal.  the self fabric waist band/tie has big button holes at a few points, and you thread the one side through the band on the other side, and then tie it in back.  very simple to make but i suspect if i made one i would add a few details so it had more fabric at the hem than at the waist.

i will be trying on the denim one as it is a different pattern i think......

why black? well i am still in mourning for ladyrowansplace mka Lynn.  She died two weeks ago Ash Wednesday. i will be wearing black (exclusive of my outer coats/sweaters) for two more weeks.  i am making an exception for the white veils i wear for SCA events, but only because i really have no documentation of black veils in that time period... even for mourning.

clothes, lady ro
