apparently the disruption in my eating and sleeping schedule, combined with the extreme jump in the amount of standing (on concrete) and physical activity has taken more of a toll on my than i expected.
its obviously going to take me a bit to get adjusted to this.
also the dust level is a killer.
however i have actually gone two days without bringing home more fabric!
so, yes, i have been almost entirely off line.
if you need to get in touch with me please email my husband whouseknecht at hotmail, or contact him through LJ or facebook... he can pass any message along to me faster than i can check my computer.
in other news, i did get to the philadelphia flower show (my parents came in from Lancaster on the bus).
it was a not so great day since i was SO tired and my feet hurt. Wayne couldn't walk much at all but was too proud to get a wheel chair, so we had to stop every few feet for him to rest his back, and he spent most of the time finding places to sit and wait for us.
my parents got in early, came out to wait for us, and were doing well. Dad has this walker thing with a seat which is a bit odd for me to get used to seeing, but he was able to get around a lot better without worrying about his balance. mom and i alternated holding Buffy (the service dog) Buffy has her usual fan following... "OOH a dog!" and "oh how PRETTY!" and lots of "can i pet her?" she is a very pretty dog and she knows it! she does, however have a VERY strong food drive and her training is shot on that, there were lots of times we had to correct her because she kept going after dropped food. the toddlers and the spaghetti were a specially difficult case...
parents left at 2 ish to get to their bus at 2:30. and i ran back in to do a bit of last minute shopping while Wayne sat outside. then we left about 2:30 ish to get our car... two blocks away, which meant wayne had to stop three times to rest, stretch his back, or sit down.
so we spent money on parking, had a short day there, and most of the time was spent not seeing the show.
sigh
i bought some wooden "pots" to re pot a couple of my orchids in that needed better water retention than they were getting mounted on cork. and i bought some "instant Vases" (basically friendly plastic) they store flat, but can be warmed, then popped open and cooled to use as stable vases.
i had seen them four years ago at the show and kicked myself for not getting them, since i have so little storage space for flower vases.....
the ad copy says "looks like glass" which they do NOT, they look like plastic. they do however look like NICE plastic. i got green and pink, since he was out of clear, turns out that the convention center banquet manager bought him out... poor poor man (lol) i wonder how he survived such a devastating purchase.
i saw a ton of orchids, but most of the ones i liked were too big for my available space.
i did get a lot of compliments on my outfit.
Calf length Bargello print skirt (multicolor on black) i think from Catherine's 4-5 years ago
black knit top, with offset bow at neck, from Kohl's last year
scarf in black with multi color threads and coin fringe from Claire's late last year (tied in a dutch crown style i learned from Tznius dot com)
my multicolor purse (Skyrockets, from Rita, at Mylinka dot com)
its a very cool thing when strangers come up to you saying "i just wanted you to know you are TOTALLY rocking that outfit....." and "where did you get that hat!" i got compliments in the flower show from attendees, and staff, and then later at the grocery store!
i talk all the time at work to (mostly Muslim, but some other) women who all complain that finding modest outfits is a pain, because most of whats out there isn't modest, and what is modest is often unflattering and lacking in style. This goes double for mom's trying to find nice clothes for their daughters. for a lot of them thats why they learned (or are learning) to sew, thus bringing them to my fabric department.
and yet i go out, covered from neck to lower calf with my hair up and totally covered in a scarf and get all sorts of people complimenting me on the outfit. so there is OBVIOUSLY a market for it....
and THIS is one of the reasons i want to go back to school for Fashion design.
anyway, tired and stuffy ears.. going back off line
