an online friend has a blog for her assistance dog....
HERE.. which is sort of like the LJ user
bboa who is also an assistance dog. (and well worth reading i might add)
but one of the posts on Meet Luigi had a great idea that i passed on to my father (who has a hearing ear dog)
Her dog has his own
postcards and business cards!
since my dad is deaf, and some folks find him a little hard to understand, this seemed like a great idea.

now off that topic sort of.... i must admit that the polite protocol for service animals seems to be "dont ask what they do" which. frankly. is not how i was raised. i have apparently been rude to several people without meaning to, because i asked "what is your kitty's/dog's job?"
to the folks who said "oh, well thats private" i thank you.... that is an answer that was polite.
to the people who simply declared (sometimes to me, sometimes to other people) that i was a rude (deleted). you are not helping the cause of the handicapped assistance animal!
people will ask. most people have never even seen a guide dog in person.. and have no idea what else is out there.
in my case i was raised with people who had handicapped assistance animals. and was told to "go ahead and ask" and always be willing to explain what dad's dog does...
do you have to do that? no.. but for heavens sake. how is anyone supposed to know that you dont think they should ask if you dont tell them?
In addition. if someone asks "what is your assistance dog for?" dont assume they are declaring your dog isnt REALLY an assist dog. (yes this happened to me).
