Today in history..
a lot of other stuff happened, but 21 years ago today whouseknecht and I got married.  Here in Philadelphia, at Old Christ Church.

A  lot of my wedding was pre scripted when i was a kid. My dad is a minister so he would do the ceremony, obviously.  mom loves french horns so we had to have a french horn.  the entirety of dad's church had to be invited, so no one felt left out.  i had always said i wanted to wear mom's veil.. it was made from lace she brought home from a college trip to Venice.  i had an idea of what kind of dress i wanted, but we couldnt fins one i could afford, so i finally settled on mom's wedding dress.

it had to be re-fitted (i was frightfully thin back then, but even then they had to take a slice from the skirt and put extra material in the rib cage area to get it to fit me, i have always been larger in the shoulders and ribs than my mom)  and despite the worry that it was too fragile i was wearing her Venetian lace veil.... and carrying a trailing bouquet of stuff that looked like spider plant leaves (with the green and white stripe down the middle) and orchids.
even then i loved orchids.
Wayne wore a blue grey tuxedo and tails, with a grey cane and a sort of top hat.

my bridesmaids wore teal dresses from JC Penny's wedding order department, that matched the cut and style of my dress fairly well.. and the groomsmen wore teal cummerbunds.

Oner of our groomsmen (Stu... umm.. geesh i dont remember his full name)  took candid photos. which were fantastic.  the commercial photographer sucked eggs, kept going down the aisle in the church during the ceremony. mom had to hiss at him all the time. and he didnt take a lot of photos of Wayne's family.

I had set up an appointment weeks in advance to have my hair curled and set. we were very specific it was a wash and set.. with curlers.  when we arrived the wedding morning we found they only did perms. and thought i was there for a perm.  they found rollers under a sink covered in crud and were washing them off and putting them in my hair. then we found out they didnt have a bonnet dryer and tried to dry MY hair (long, and lots of it) set in curlers with a blow dryer.  it was still wet in curlers when i arrived at the church.  we sprayed more hair spray on it that day trying to get it to hold even though it was still wet.. the same photographer/groomsman helped me with my make up because i was being hysterical..
my hair was still wet that evening, and the hair spray acted like glue.. i was picking birdseed and rice out of my hair, literally, for weeks

The church forgot to put down the white aisle runner and the bottom of my skirt and train were black from the cobblestones in the church..

We had a French Horn for music and the wedding processional.  a friend of my mom sang.  and we left the reception in a horse drawn carriage....

anniversary, wedding, memory
