I'm often shocked when people compare my writing to famous authors' writing, especially because they almost invariably compare me to people I've never read. Sometimes, after checking out, say, Don Delillo, to see what the buzz is about, I am highly offended. Other times I am extremely pleased. But I'm almost always confused because I disagree with most assessments that my writing is like this or that other writing. Over the years I've decided to generally take it as a compliment, especially when someone who isn't into the literary scene (such as my dad) inexplicably compares me to one of his/her favorite authors (WEB Griffin, Dad, seriously?), because I think when people compare a friends' work favorably with a famous person's work it really means "I like it!" more than anything else.

When J-Dawg and I are in town for Christmas I expect to attend a show. Make it happen!
