Been a while then, ain't it?
Well, y'all should know, I'm still in the writing business. Grey Snow, in all it's glory, has come and gone, been conceived and died in life's cruel cycle. But don't think that means there ain't hope for it yet! I'm gonna breathe new life into this puppy, make it something it ain't ever been, something much better. Something that... actually makes sense. Now wouldn't that be fun?
I actually have more plans for the city of Bedford in general. My NaNoWriMo attempt this past November, which was very loosely inspired by (in a turn ridiculous even for myself) a 5-minute frame segment from the PBS Sprout channel. Uh... yeah, don't ask. Anyways, what came out of it was a little story about a pianist in a jazz band by the name of Ricky Bueno-jittery guy, addicted to caffeine, very talented. Before I go on I'll say why this is relevant: the story was also set in Bedford. Granted it's a different Bedford these days, being the late 1930s and all. It's unclear how many of the characters from GS haven't offed themselves in some way or another by that point, but Ricky does rent a room in the home of a matured, adult Button (now known as Mr. Brooks and in his late 50s) and his wife. I didn't finish, in my usual fashion, but it was great fun, and I did get some very good ideas from it.
I've also got one more story idea, loosely related to the city, set in perhaps the 1860s or so, in the West. I can't say much about it yet, cuz I don't know much about it yet. In any case, I'm going to need to do a whole mess of research before I can even attempt this trilogy. Bedford just can't stay in Illinois, folks. In any case, Grey Snow will make its triumphant return, rising from the ashes like some sort of sooty phoenix, and it'll be a thousand times better.
On that same sort of note, I've also been rethinking KSZ, in a much more sensical manner. (See a pattern here? I didn't make much sense in my younger days.) More to come on that when I have something solid to say...
And so, onward to the future! I'm compiling my story ideas and deciding on what to do. Now that I've graduated I've no excuse but to write, seeing that I have so much time on my hands. ><
My first project, since it seems fun and like a good exercise for me, will be to create a world using this
30 Days of Worldbuilding Guide. I'm not sure if it would work for any of my pre-existing ideas, but it may give me the spark for something new, so what the hey. Then in the case of KSZ I think I'd like to try using Patricia C. Wrede's famous
Fantasy Worldbuilding Questions, and see if I can't get something solid to start from. I've got so many ideas running around in my head, it would be silly to ignore them. From there on, I think I may try ye olde
Snowflake Method for writing, and see if that can't get me somewhere. Then maybe, just maybe, I'll be able to actually write something again. That'd be cool right?
In the meantime, maybe I'll try some writing contests on Gaia, just to get the juices flowing. And read. I am trying to read lots.
