Larson/Ruben: Week Eight

Jul 29, 2014 06:05

For the scientific and mostly apolitical Larson/Ruben family, it was a week to continue career achievement and to see their grandchildren grow up.

Abel continued to serve as the Dean of Sim City College of Medicine. He had some pressure to resign and take up a similar position at M.U. (Monkeykidders should help Monkeykidders, argued the Governor), but resisted and remained one of the few residents working outside the MRA following the Revolution.

Fatima, unlike her husband, did leave her position at SimCity Grace to take up the Chief job at the newly-created Monkeykid Hospital. As much as she had enjoyed practicing at Grace, she was realistic enough to recognize that her surgical skills had atrophied, thanks to age and fewer opportunities, she was better in a wholly administrative role and she looked forward to building something anew to help her people.

Meanwhile, Avraham’s intelligence had led to several promotions, as he ended the week as lead researcher on several new patents and had consulted with Education Minister bin-Fahd regarding programs to bring more STEM training and education into the schools. As a former scientist herself, he found the Minister very receptive to his ideas and he was looking forward to next week and continuing the work relationship.

Unlike her parents and husband, Harper served the public in a less academic role. Her role on Hey Buddy had opened up better opportunities and she leaped at the chance to go to Broadway, where she could sing and dance, as well as act. Her career was certainly successful, albeit it left her somewhat unsatisfied, especially as she compared herself to the more noble achievements of her kin - is all she capable of being an entertainer?

Yair and Rivka spent most of the week as toddlers, with no shortage of relatives around to teach them their skills as they became children late in the week and looked forward to starting school.
