I have always enjoyed working with children and have a great deal of experience with them; however, I do not have much teaching experience, especially in a classroom setting. When I interviewed for Amity last year, I realized how important my inexperience was. I applied to graduate school to start a Master's Degree in Education. Financially, however, I can not afford to go to graduate school at this time. Instead I decided to defer my enrollment and applied to work as an English teacher in Korea in order to gain experience and save money. I have recently started working and I really enjoy the work.

Since my Bachelor's Degree was not in Education and I do not have a Master's Degree I realize this lessens my appeal as a teaching candidate. Through my work in Korea, I am hoping to learn more about the necessary skills and knowledge for teaching. If this year goes well , I plan to re-apply to Amity or find other ways to search for work in Japan. However, I am wondering what would be the best path to take...

Since I have a one year contract, I know what I will be doing this year; however, I am wondering what I should do after that. I realize I have a lot of time to consider this, but at the same time the decision will affect several choices I will be making in the next month.

Option 1: (1 + 1 = 2 years) I can finish my contract after one year and return to America to start work on my Master's Degree. If I get into the 1 year program I want, then I can go full-time for one year and then apply to Japan.

Option 2: (2 years) I can continue work in Korea for two years and hope that the experience is as good a recommendation as a degree.

Option 3: (1 year) I can finish my contract and either return to the US and try for Amity, or just go online or to Japan and try to get a job right away.

Mind you, I've known this controversy would come up eventually, but I can't think. Is the degree really that important or is having a BA and real experience enough?

How this started: If I stay for two years, I want to get a contract phone, if I stay for one, I might as well get a pre-pay.
