okay. so I get on the bus to town, and whilst on the bus conclude that it's too fucking cold not to have gloves. so I went and bought some kickass black leather ones from M&S. overpriced at £25, but they look like the ones sellers wore as dr strangelove. so fuck it.

anyway, armed with gloves, I went and had lunch at burger king. where I took the photo you see to your right. then I went to the trainstation. the gloves were already paying for themselves in practicality and comedy (the former coz my hands weren't that cold and the latter coz people now seemed even MORE afraid of me!)

so yeah. the train journey went well except at the end when we got stuck behind some slow moving piece of shit so got into queens street late. got a later train to charing cross then spent about 20 minutes trying to find the fucking venue, when it's right near the station! such a glasgow n00b, was I.

anyway, the queue wasn't too bad. they searched my bag (not profiling tho, they did everyone with a bag) and were very quick and thorough which was nice. except they did it in the main hallway, which was dumb.

I checked my bag and coat and burst were crap so I bought an opeth world tour t-shirt and hung around the bar area. I then saw this chick who was pretty and had the most awesome set of knockers I'd seen for a while (apologies if that phrasing offended you) so I smiled, she smiled back, I went over and started talking. I thought there was promise. there was none, not sexually anyway. story of my life.

still, she was cool. called sarah (ha) and studying english and film (ha!) and english at aberdeen (HA!) her mate, kino (I think) was also studying film and english. they're first-years. so we chatted for a bit as burst were crap. then we headed on up.

burst were done pretty quickly. we got closeish to the front. anyway, there was some awesome 2001-esque opening drone and you could hear the keyboardy bits of ghost of perdition come through a couple of times. they came out. WOO! straight into GHOST OF PERDITION. and sweet fuck this song sounds even better live! the double-pedal bit was NUTS.

anyway, the mic wasn't loud enough I don't think. or it wasn't tuned right. so after the song finished I shouted "turn up the mic!" (I will marry you if you spot THAT reference) and then they went into WHEN! yeeeeeeeessssss I love this tune. they did it at brum and it wasn't quite as good here coz the crowd weren't half as good. I think the brum crowd's awesomeness spoiled me coz this crowd was well static. I think that may have been to do with the rules of the place coz whenever someone tried to crowd surf these bouncers were in like a shot and pulled them away. and whenever a pit started they'd stand up on the guardrail and stare at everyone until it calmed down.

anyway, back to the show... up next? WHITE CLUSTER. I figured this'd be a downpoint. I clearly haven't listened to this song enough. it was ACE. the solo was insane. after that, they did CLOSURE and I called up libby (coz it's her fave opeth song) but I couldn't hear her and she apparantly couldn't make out what she was hearing. but yeah, the song was awesome and for the outro they did an extended version. I wondered why, a bit (only a bit coz it's an awesome outro) but then it switched up slightly into the BLEAK intro AND I SHIT MYSELF!

well, not really. but holy wowza. I wanted to hear bleak the first time, but they did drapery falls instead. which is great, fair enough, but I prefer bleak. so yeah, I was going NUTS for bleak. took a bunch o' pics. fuckin' love this tune.

so yeah, that was done. mikael riffed about mendez wanting to score (I think that was either now or after ghost of perdition) tonight. the crowd cheered. on with the songs: THE GRAND CONJURATION was up next. I like this song. it's good on the album, but GREAT live. the riff gets even more awesome, as do the solos.

when that was over. he started talking about opeth and how "we are fucking legends" (:D) and how they've been around for ages. then he said THEY WERE GOING TO PLAY SOMETHING OFF ORCHID!! AND THEY DID! THEY DID!! THEY PLAYED UNDER THE WEEPING MOON!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!

made my night, my day, my week, my month, my motherfucking YEAR. sweet crap. and it sounds SO AWESOME live. wow. just, wow. I mean. fuck. just. fucking hell. I can't express it. I really can't.

so after that, they started talking about cannonball run 2 and an ass-fucking scene in a film starring burt reynolds (I didn't catch the name. boogie nights? I dunno, anyone know?) and how they inspired this song. so I'm thinkin', what the fuck? then it hits (it being the music) and it all becomes a motherfucking blur.

DELIVERANCE

I'll say no more.

after deliverance, I was sure blackwater park was next. but they had been given a STRICT deadline by the garage (LAME) and didn't have time for such epicness. so they went for the last song. and it was, of course, DEMON OF THE FALL. I loved it, possibly even more than last time, though I don't know why. but, fuck, I just love opeth.

anyway, they left the stage so we all started milling out. on the side bench I thought I saw someone I recognised. I thought it may be bitterlace but wasn't sure. rather than bother her (she looked busy) I took a photo with the intention of posting it here and asking her if it was her. anyway, as we all converged on the exits I ended up standing near her so I ducked back and asked her, and yes, it was her! so that was cool. we talked for a bit, she seems cool enough, thought I lived in london (I wish) tho. anyway, then we went our seperate ways.

so we left the venue. said by to sarah and kimo, sarah was very huggy with her ex which confirmed my earlier suspicions. anyway, so I went off (found charing cross quicker this time!) and coz it was earlier than I thought got an earlier train to queens street and then after a long wait for a cheeseburger (which was IN the slidy thing) and having to stand infront of racist fucktards who called the dude behind the counter a niggo despite the fact that they shoulda been bowing at his feet (we all should have, given that he looked like a cross between don cheadle and andy motherfuckin' peters) I got on the 11pm to edinburgh.

stood around waverly for 5 mins waiting for libby. which didn't need reporting except the two police officers who strolled into the area and stood behind a tree watching me :D anyway, libby was cool and we walked and talked. her flat is wickedbadass and in a SWEET location. and despite being ill she made a rather comfy and nice bed on her sofabed for me (good hostess, is she) and I just crashed. tired, was I.

woke up this morning around what, quarter-past eight. got ready quickish and libby walked me back to waverly and we said our goodbyes. she's awesome, shame she couldn't make it to the gig. we should hang out more.

anyway, train back to aberdeen was no biggie except for THE MOTHERFUCKING MOUNTAINS. I mean, they just looked really cool is all. took some photos of them. got back to abdn, had a double cheeseburger and a milkshake, got on a bus home. and have since been resizing pics and doing fuck all. huzzah! I also wrote a couple of poems (Southbound Musings and Names) on the way there. too shredded to do so on the way back. check 'em out. they're okay.

anyway. that is all. I hope you enjoyed this looooong entry and oodles of photos.
