*peeks* Hiya flist! Seems an age since I posted a real update. I had planned to update today, and
jules1278 must have read my mind because she nudged me yesterday. ;)
On the domestic goddess front, I've been busy, busy, busy. I'm still painting. *sigh* For the past month I've been in the process of painting all my doors and trim white, and that brought about the need to repaint the walls in my master bathroom. I had originally painted the walls of the master bath white, which was fine when the doors and trim were woodgrain tones. Now that I've painted the doors and trim white too, I needed to change the walls. To compliment and contrast, I chose Classic Khaki. Hubby and I both liked the look of the master bath when I finished, so I decided to paint our master bedroom to match. I also switched out all my shiny gold doorknobs to brushed nickel. *whew* This whole updating the look of one's house is work! I'm happy with the progress and results so far though. I'm almost finished with the doors and trim. I've got one closet door, and the trim in one room to complete. Yay!! Hopefully, I'll get that knocked out this weekend.
Between work, and having a home project, I've not had much play time. I took a vacation day today, so I could re-coup and catch up on things. I'm so out of the loop here on LJ, it's not even funny. Some of my online life to do list:
- I badly need to update
Captured Memories.
- Icons have been on the back burner for quite a while, but I'm itching to work on some.
- I need to check in with my peeps here on LJ! I've not really been able read my f-list in weeks.
- I need to do a banner for a certain Moonlight fic,
Heartsick, by the lovely
rikki_oko. ;)
- I need to read and feedback the new chapters of
Heartsick, because it is fabulous.
Which brings me to the next item I want to discuss. Moonlight is cancelled!!!11!!!1!! o_O Is CBS on crack? Seriously. What. Are. They. Thinking. They cancel the show that was voted "Favorite New TV Drama" at the People's Choice Awards. The show that was consistently winning it's time slot. The show whose male lead, Alex O'Loughlin, was voted "SEXIEST SCI-FI GUY" in TV Guide's Sexiest Stars 2008 poll. *glares* How is cancelling Moonlight a smart thing CBS? HOW? *glares more* I just don't get it. In fact, I'm a card carrying member of the so-not-getting-it-society. I'm annoyed to the point that I've signed petitions, voted in polls, emailed execs, and generally let it be known that ETS is displeased to say the least. I'm still hoping another network, smarter than CBS, will see a good opportunity in Moonlight, and snorf it up. Thank goodness that
rikki_oko is posting her yummy
Moonlight fic. That will help to soothe my wounded sensibilities. *sniff*
At least I still have Lost. In fact, I've got a two hour season finale to obsess over tomorrow night! w00t!!! *clings to Lost like whoa* Nothing like a completely insane, put your eyebrows in orbit, mind boggling show's season finale to make a girl happy. :P I'm visiting my Mom tomorrow, but I'll be sure to be home in time to plant myself in front of the tube. Mustwatchordie. *nods*
We've got lots of wildlife around here. Usually, it's a cool thing. Kind of like living on the set of Bambi. Deer, squirrels, cute bunny rabbits. Raccoons too. I think they're cute, but lately, they've been raiding my squirrel-proof bird feeders. They are piglets! Smart piglets. I found one birdfeeder, in my back yard, lifted off it's S-hook and opened on the ground. I put clip rings around the top to keep them from being lifted off the S-hooks...they took the clip rings off. So then I wrapped wire around the hooks to keep the feeders in place. I also have a couple of feeders hanging on shepherd's hooks in the front yard. I wrapped wire around those too. Seemed like I had outwitted them. *snort* Yeah, right. A couple of nights ago, one of the baby dogs needed to go out at 5 am. I let her out into their fenced area, and when the motion light clicked on - I spied a big raccoon sitting on top of one of my front yard feeders. It was reaching over and pulling the other feeder over to it, and gorging itself. I gasped in outrage. Like a ninja assassin discreetly camoflaged in a nightgown & pink fuzzy slippers, I eased out onto the front porch. Since I'd left my throwing stars in my other nightgown, I grabbed some garden hand tools and flung them towards the furry masked intruder. I missed. Three times. The raccoon was, however, no slouch and noted the garden tools whizzing past him at a high velocity. He bailed off the birdfeeder and loped off at an impressive speed, helpfully urged on by my enthusiastic yelling of that indispensable southern term: "GIT!!!! You GIT!!!!" Which translated is universally known to mean - You need to go away for your own good, or bodily harm will come to you. /end translation. No doubt he's the same one that raided my bluebird house a few weeks back. *sporks* I've now moved the feeders farther apart to prevent reachability. Ah, life in the country.
That experience, however lively, pales in comparison to my Hubby spotting a black bear in our neighbor's driveway last week. o_O That's right. I said a black bear. Hubby was across the street at his parent's house checking on their dogs, since they were out of town. He was about to walk back to our house when he saw it. He promptly did what any red-blooded, well-versed hunter, and gun owner would do. He called his wife. He told me what he'd seen, and told me to drive over and pick him up. Hmm. I said, "Ok, you just told me you've seen a bear next door and you want me to go outside to my car?" Granted my car is right near the house, but still. Crazy much? Well, apparently we are because I did go and drive over to get him. I'm happy to report that neither of us were mauled. In fact, I wasn't too sure he saw what he thought he saw. Neither were the neighbors we told. A few days later, I got a incredulous phone call from my next door neighbor. She said my hubby was right, because she found what defintely looked like bear tracks near her driveway. I went over and lo and behold, there they were. Bear tracks. Eeep! My Hubby raved "I told you so!!!" with a typical display of good sportsmanship. Hee. So long story short...my neighbor called Game & Fish and let them know. They advised that all trash be kept in tight containers, and to call if we noticed any nusiance behavior. They think that it was most likely just "passing through" and that we'll not see it again. In any case, I'm keeping a sharp eye on the baby dogs when they go out to do their business. See how crazy my life is?
So that's pretty much the Cliff Notes of my recent life. I hope to catch up with everyone soon! *hugs f-list & waves to new friends*
