The visit to northampton was like a Charles Butterworth performance: satisfying, yet with a strange aftertaste. It's nice to be out of there, but at the same time it's not so nice. If i could combine the merits of the two places then i'd be getting somewhere. But it isn't likely. for now i'll distract myself with MT&R and as many Jack Benny programs as i can swallow. a few things i've learned:
-the title of any given film is 79% likely to be shared with two others from the silent era.
-D.W. Griffith was a jew (who knew?)
-nobody enjoys new year's eve.
-Since i have left home, my parents have shown an increasing preference for foreign smut.
Garbo is a performer i can't seem to stay awake from, and believe me, i try very hard. I don't enjoy her performances except in 3, possibly 4 pictures, and yet i keep coming back to them. I can't figure it out, because there seems to be no reason not to be enthralled with her as the rest of the world is (even now), yet i can't get used to her. She annoys the hell out of me but she has this strange pull. well, i'm certainly not going to figure it out now, so i won't waste any more time on it.
Goodnight, Jack Paar, wherever you are.
