Book Lists

Recently, xchryseisx asked me for a list of up to 10 of my favorite books. Books I've read, loved, thought everyone should read. She gets these lists from people and then works her way through them, book by book.

After much editing, I came up with my 10 titles, listed below in the (rough) order to which I was first exposed to them.

  1. The PreHistory of the Far Side by Gary Larson
  2. The Last Unicorn by Peter S. Beagle
  3. Watership Down by Richard Adams
  4. The Man Who Was Thursday by G.K. Chesterton
  5. Momo by Michael Ende
  6. The Sandman: I-X by Neil Gaiman
  7. Arcadia by Tom Stoppard
  8. His Dark Materials: I-III by Philip Pullman
  9. Scaramouche by Rafael Sabatini
  10. Shantaram by Gregory David Roberts
I also considered the short stories of Roald Dahl, a novella by William Goldman, numerous works of Wilkie Collins, Milne's Pooh books, a couple related novels from Christopher Morley, one from Marianne Robinson, children's stories of James Thurber, other titles by the "top ten" authors -- but I think the above list is fairly definitive.

Though I'm not sure I could stick to a list myself, I think it's a neat idea. And I'd be curious to know what books my friends hold dear. So, feel free to suggest a title or ten.
