The Pacific episode 3: Melbourne

I... didn't much care for this episode. I think the root problem is that I don't really like Bob Leckie. I haven't from the start. It's not really the character per se, it's more that the actor's mannerisms and bearing and cockiness kind of grate on me. Idk. It's one of those things that you can't explain, but is nonetheless very real. I pretty much have yet to be charmed by him. Therefore, I was quite irked that he took up half the screen time. It was a sweet enough little story, and I liked the girl and her parents, but I just wasn't invested in it at all. And then he got drunk and was an idiot at his superior and I didn't feel bad for him at all. Oops.

I got more invested in Sid's awkward little romance, and we got that in 20 second bitelets! I adored his wide-eyed terror when faced with the Articles of War! <3 He brought her to a cheap motel! They were awkward at each other! He started kissing her shoulder and it was so SWEET! I wish they had been the focus of the episode instead. :( He's still my favorite, despite getting like a line or two per episode. Boo.

I like Basilone quite a bit, but again, not enough face time! More than Sid of course, but now he's being shipped away, and idk. I did love the scene at the bar though - they ordered a beer for Manny! ;____; And he downed a truly, truly horrible sounding mix of liquors! Basilone's pretty and a badass, and I enjoy him. I wish he was the MAIN main character, and also that he had more people around him, though he and JP are pretty presh. I really do like the head guy (is he a... general?) who gave Basilone his citation. He's kind of gruff but also very fond of his boys, and good to them.

On the whole, it feels so disjointed. It's deeply weird to have two of the main characters in the same stadium and yet not know each other. I know that's an artifact of the stories they chose to tell, and they can't change history THAT much, but still. It's lacking the camaraderie feeling that makes BoB so much fun and so charming. (Yes, I'm still making comparisons! So are you. :P)

When can Sledge show up with his adorable boyfriends? I've fallen in love with the actors and can't wait to meet the characters. *gimmehands*

I think one reason this episode fell flat for me is that the REASON I was excited for it was to see the boys bonding when they're not worried about being blown up at any second. And we got almost none of that. Instead it was all ~romance and whatever and uhhh sorry but I don't much care! This is a war series, and I came to see the soldiers.

Next week: Moar Leckie, and another stupid title with forward slashes in it. Wtf? Just pick a name! Poetical is okay! I really do hope we get to Sledge soon.
