I've got a feeling if I sang this loud enough, you would sing it back to me

I am posting instead of studying for an exam. Ain't it always the truth?

Well. I've been studying for most of today, but I don't really feel prepared. That's mostly because this class has been pretty poorly taught, rather unclear and kind of rambling all over the place without pauses to summarize important concepts. It's just drug mechanism after drug mechanism, and somehow we're supposed to pull general principles from that. Blah.

The exam is tomorrow at 1 PM. I only went into lab briefly today after class and came home at 12:30, so one would think that I've gotten loads of studying done! But because there's no problem sets or practice exam, it's nearly impossible to focus my studying. ARGH. I just want this to be over, because then I WILL HAS A candidlily, who is staying with me for the weekend, YAY! And on Saturday we're going to see THE USED and DRIVE A!!!!! with angel726, so I am SUPER STOKED for that. \o/

I've seen a few scarce SPN reaction posts, and from these I REALLY WANT TO SEE THE EPISODE OMG!!!!, but why are so many of you silent?! Sad. I was hoping for you to distract me with your squeeing while I was studying. :(

Some Glee thoughts: I used to be mostly ambivalent about Cory Monteith's voice, but now I'm fully on the side of STOP RUINING LEA MICHELE'S SONGS!!!!! I've had most of the Glee songs on repeat for a couple weeks now, and I love most of them (Take a Bow is still a favorite, as is Somebody to Love and, surprisingly, the Halo mashup), but it's gotten to the point where I cringe every time Finn cuts in to Rachel's triumphant, crystal clear warbling. Particularly on Somebody to Love and No Air. Why can't they let some of the other guys sing? Artie's got a great voice! And Kurt hasn't even gotten a chance yet, nor has Puck! Sigh. (And on that note, Puck was so charmingly douchey for an ep or two, but now he's basically a backup dancer. Learn to balance your characters, Glee!)

And speaking of characters, Glee is still really... kind of failing, in depth and consistency. Interestingly, the best character growth has been Quinn, in my opinion. She's still underhanded and sneaky, but she also has moments of startling vulnerability, and I find myself adoring her. Which is weird, since the idea of the "virgin cheerleader" was so deeply obnoxiously done in the pilot. But kudos to Dianna for that. Despite all of the fail, though, I find myself getting sucked in - I don't know, it's something about people expressing themselves ~WITH MUSIC~ that just yanks at my heartstrings. I rewatch a lot of the musical numbers... a lot, and subsequently some of the scenes right around them, and like. Idk! The kids obviously have a lot of heart, and it's not THEIR fault the writing is inconsistent and trying to find its comfortable middle ground between TOTALLY WACKY and actual drama. I am warming up to the idea that I might really care about this show eventually, but it's going to take a lot more development to get there. Luckily, with how big a hit it is, it will probably be around for a couple years and will get that chance.

One of the things I am most pleased with is that Rachel has been toned down/modulated, giving me more leeway to unabashedly LOVE THE SHIT OUT OF HER VOICE, oh my GOD. Her voice is like sweet, soothing love being made to my ears. Mmmmmmmmm. She's a great performer too, and while I do love the recording of a song, her physical performance on the show often brings TEARS to my eyes. She's also super stunning in a refreshingly unique way, and basically I ♥ Lea!!

And randomly, I kind of completely adore Brittany, the blonde Cheerio who is not Quinn. I noticed her background dancing from the very beginning - I think she's by far the best dancer of the girls (the contrast with Tina in Single Ladies was, I'm afraid, laughable) and my eyes always seem to be drawn to her. The actress also just seems to be a sweetheart, from the adorable stuff I catch her doing in the background of busy shots or during group numbers. I am particularly charmed by her and Puck holding hands during Somebody to Love. What! I have a totally random girlcrush, idek.

And I really wish Mr Shue would actually let Mercedes sing in a big performance number. She's AMAZING!!! And so spunky. ♥

Looking back at this list, I like that the female characters are the ones that seem strongest and most likeable to me (and this is speaking relatively, since everyone fails pretty hard quite often, if they have lines). That's at least one area I can give the show a sort of thumbs up on! (The massive, glaring exception is Terri and her sister. Can I just say: UGGGGHHHHHHH.)

And randomly: does anyone else find it kind of annoying that the show has ruined the simple word "glee"? I used to use it all the time (e.g., *wriggles with glee!*) but now it feels like people will think I'm making a pun about the show or something, when I'm totally not. SIGH! My life is SO VERY HARD!

Obviously this post HAD to be made. It was so much more important than studying. OBVIOUSLY!

:P
