Okay so the whole "The View" thing. Ugh. Over it. And why it means nearly nothing...first people are forgetting that a grown woman, who happens to be a nurse entered a pageant. And then, for the talent portion chose to do a monologue while wearing her work uniform (which happens to be scrubs). She also had with her one of the tools used in the profession of nursing, the stethoscope. Oh, by the way, we also use thermometers, sphygmomanometers, computers, tongue blades and a whole bunch of other fun tools. Docs use them too, sometimes.
Anyway, a girl comes to a pageant and has a monologue prepared about her work. Talent? Not as much as you would think. Skill? Sure! So why wouldn't a comedian (or 20) have a field day with this? Seriously!? If an architect did a monologue about her job and happened to have a T-square in her hand and a comedian, who worked on a morning talk show cracked a (ill-informed) joke would there be any backlash? Or better yet, a bookkeeper with an abacus (remember those?) and if it was called an Accountant's tool would all of the bookkeepers have a universal fit?
Oh, you know who else uses a stethoscope in their work day? Respiratory therapists, EMTs, Paramedics, Physician's Assistants and probably a few more that I am forgetting. The source people, consider the source.
Oh, and nurses? Get off your holier than thou horses and be honest. It is a job. You will always be able to find a job as a nurse. You get paid pretty consistently and some states pay pretty well (mine is not one of them). Some nurses are really great at the job, some really should have been accountants, or bookkeepers or apple pickers and others are just good. There are plenty that like it, a few that love it, and lots that are just glad they aren't stuck working fast food any more.
