"What we learned here is love tastes bitter when it's gone
Past yourself forget the light, things look dirty when it's on
Funny how it comes to pass, that all the good slips away
And there's no one around you can remember being good to
You

[chorus 1]
Shame, shouldn't try you, couldn't step by you
And open up more
Shame, shame, shame

What we lost here is something better left alone
Second steps have been forgotten, will you tell me how
They go
Set yourself, situate, like a fool try again
There's no one around you can remember being good, for you
So

[chorus 2]
Shame, shouldn't try you, couldn't step by you
And open up more
Shame, shame, shame
Shame, shouldn't try you, couldn't step by you
And open up more
Shame, shame, shame

We never thought we'd get so troubled
We could never think that much
It should never get this bad

So let the wind blow ya, across a big floor
But there's no one around who can tell us what we're here
For
Funny in a certain light, how we all look the same
And there's no one in life you can remember ever stood
For you, so"

i can remember listening to this album constantly. on repeat. until tracks started to skip. id sit on the rug in my room and just be mesmerized by the sound of it. this came out when i was in what the seventh or eighth grade? 1996 so yeah, between 6th and 7th grade. and all those pre-teen anger issues that were bubbling up inside my mind were just starting to show themselves. and rob thomas was so, sad. and slow. and the music was darker then what i was used to. he was depressed, you could just hear it dripping on every word.

i have no 'guilty' pleasures when it comes to music. that implies i have some sort of timid acceptance and reluctance to the shit i listen to. and i dont. i dont offer any sort of argument towards what i like or don't like. so im not embarrassed to admit that i do love m20. because the words spoke to me at one point in my life. and i can listen to 'yourself or someone like you' even know, older, wiser, much much happier, and still feel connected to the songs. actually a few years ago i started listening to 'back 2 good' which is a song i used to skip over when i was a kid. but what i was going through at that moment i needed those words to sing. and rob thomas gave them to me.
