Dr. Horrible - or Billy, since he was in his civilian clothing - lay in the grass by the train, his hands folded over his chest lightly and staring up at the sky, watching the fireworks quietly. It was strange, he surmised, how long it'd been since he'd been away from his lab, his henchman, and everything. He was almost starting to get used to it all.

And a vacation wasn't all that bad, now that he thought about it. He'd just thought he'd have been with Penny by the end of the year. Well...That was what resolutions were for, weren't they? He shut his eyes and thought.

Tsuuma had been walking through the field, trying to find a good spot to enjoy the fireworks where she didn't really have to hear the noise. Unfortunately it wasn't working. There was no way she could watch the fireworks without facing toward them.

She blinked as she found Dr. Horrible, dressed casually, at her feet. She tilted her head slightly. "Oh! Hello Doctor... How are you?"

Opening one eye, Dr. Horrible stared up at Tsuuma, and gave her a tired smile.

"Oh..you know." He answered vaguely. "Enjoying the show?" His head glanced up at the fireworks, opening both eyes now to look up as a particularly bright and loud firework went off.

Tsuuma smiled a little, flinching as the boom traveled through the air. She brought her arms up to cover her ears, but lowered them as the sound faded before she could actually cover them.

"Ah..." She gave an awkward laugh. Not particularly. They're pretty, but the sound is bothering me a bit."

"The sound?" Dr. Horrible tilted his head, and sat up.

"Hold on." He reached into his back pocket of his jeans and took out his smaller first-aid kit, something he'd started carrying around due to his recent string of conflicts. Opening the box, he took out two cotton balls, and handed them up to Tsuuma, closing the case with a snap.

"Put those in your ears." he instructed, replacing the case.

Tsuma blinked and took the cotton, stuffing it into her ears. She gave a relieved smile. "Ah. Thank you. That's much better." Hopefully now that the sound was dulled, her headache would ease. She sat down next to him and looked over. "Did you have a good holiday doctor?"

"...It was good. Best I've had in a while." he was forced to admit. It amazed him, but the plain fact of the matter was that he had had a good time.

"What about you?"

"I'm glad." Tsuuma smiled. "Mine was good. Everyone liked what I got for them, which made me happy. I don't think I understand the holiday, but at least I was able to make my friends happy." She figured that they'd earned that from her at least after all of this time."

"I'll have to give you a book on it, sometime." Holding his knees, Dr. Horrible looked up at the fireworks.

"I made a necklace, for Ema. She liked it."

Tsuuma nodded, "If you find one, let me know. I'd like to read it." She liked to learn things and she had found their discussion about it very interesting.

"Ah! That's good. I haven't seen her, so I haven't been able to give her what I bought for her."

"I will. I'm hoping the next place the train stops'll have a library. Or a bioengineering lab, either or."

Curiously, Dr. Horrible looked towards Tsuuma. "Yeah? What'd you get her?"

"Ah. A library would be nice." Tsuuma nodded. "Though I'm not sure I'd be able to do much at a lab." She laughed a little.

"A few new notebooks. With how much she writes things down I figured having a few extra would be handy to have around."

"They're fascinating places. Or at least, mine is." Dr. Horrible said with a touch of pride, tempered by nostalgia.

He nodded his approval, and laid back down in the grass. "She'll like that, I know it."

"I'd assume so. But I don't much understand science." Tsuuma gave an awkward laugh. "But my schooling was rather restricted, so I suppose it's not really something I was expected to really understand."

Tsuuma gave a nod, "I thought she would. They're rather cute so I thought she'd like them."

"There's got to be at least one branch out of the many sciences you'd be interested in." he chimed in hopefully. "Maybe one day we'll find out which."

"Cute?" he asked, confused. "Oh...right. Yeah, girls tend to like cute things. I think."

"I'm sure there's at least one." Tsuuma laughed a bit, "I just have never had and schooling in it. But I'm sure I'd find something if given the chance."

"Ema's a very excitable girl. I'm sure she'll be good at what she does when she's older."
