Stepping down the small stairs that lead down to the grass, Asuka tried not to trip over her own sandals. Dressed in a traditional kimono that Tsuuma had bought her, she figured she might as well put on the appropriate Japanese garment for this holiday. "Stupid--!!" She lifted the robe just slightly, trying not to get dirt on it. Frowning, she wondered if anyone would approach her about her new clothes.

Tsuuma stepped off the train, fond of the idea of a little fresh air. She turned an ear, hearing someone else walking around and turned her head. She smiled. "Ah! Soryu-san!" She waved a little. "You look very nice this evening!"

Upon hearing another voice, she turned toward the source. Pushing some strands of hair out of her face, she looked at the catlady. "Thank you. This kimono you picked out for me is perfect. The colors contrast so nicely against my body."

"It looks very lovely on you." Tsuuma smiled and walked over. "I'm glad I was able to find one that suits you so nicely."

She flinched as several of the fireworks went off, her ears going back. It took a lot of her will power not to reach up and cover her ears. Why did they have to be so loud?

Not being a big fan of fireworks herself, she glared up at the recently shot ones. "It does. I think I've gotten the attention of some of the male passengers around here. Lucky for them, I'm not in the mood to go punch them for being perverts." Asuka swallowed a bit, still wondering about how it was possible for a person to have cat-like features like she did. It was...uncomfortable for her, even now.

Tsuuma laughed a little. "You should take it as a compliment. Even if it's a little rude for them to stare, it just means they think you're pretty." She tried not to be too obviously anxious about the loud noises in the air. though she did try to position herself so she could keep her ears turned towards Asuka and away from the direction of the noise.

"I just think they need to find better things to do with their time...and their eyes." Closing an eye, she stared at Tsuuma some more, noticing her sudden apprehension. However, she didn't feel the need to say anything yet.

"I don't get it... Why is it a tradition to wear these kimonos?" While speaking, she waved her long sleeve in the beastman's direction. "I just don't understand why the Japanese like sticking themselves in these sorts of clothes all the time."

"Yes well.. Men will be men. I'm afraid we can't change that." Perhaps being married had made her a bit more lenient towards male habits. Though Viral was a bit more violent than he was a skirt chaser...

She turned her head back to Asuka as she spoke up again. "I'm afraid I wouldn't know. I'm not from the place you're thinking of." Tsuuma flinched as more of the fireworks went off. "It's not a common garment where I come from."

Sighing, she folded her arms against herself. "You shouldn't be scared of those fireworks. I doubt any of the sparks will fly down on us or anything like that."

Tsuuma blinked. "Scared of... Oh.. No no you misunderstand." Tsuuma gave an awkward smile. "It's just the noise that's bothering me. It's a little too loud for my poor ears."

"I guess I'm just more used to that. Being a combat pilot's made me used to loud noises. Even if these fireworks are fairly obnoxious." Asuka looked down, remembering how much she missed being inside her EVA...and even of being back in Misato's apartment with Shinji...of being around Kaji...

"I've never really liked fireworks. My husband was always fond of them , but I think he just like the idea of things exploding." She gave an awkward laugh. "But I suppose that makes sense for someone like him." She shook her head a bit. She didn't really miss Viral anymore, but it was hard not to keep thinking of him when he'd been such a large part of her life.

"Your husband? Is he around on the train or did you have to leave him behind?" Asuka wasn't all too interested in the subject, but she wanted to make conversation. Or...maybe she was somewhat curious all along.

"No, he's not here. He had to leave our daughter and myself shortly before I found myself here." She shook her head a bit. "It's for the best though. the universe needed him far more than we did."

"What!? He dumped you?!" She probably could've said it with more tact, but the idea of a man abandoning his wife and child was something that struck a chord with her. Mostly because, well, it had happened to her in a way. "And he left you with your daughter? That's despicable!"

Tsuuma blinked widely. Oh dear, she'd phrased it badly, hadn't she? "No no! He didn't leave by choice!" She brought her hands up a bit defensively. "I'm sure if he'd been given the option, he'd have taken us with him." She bit her lower lip, trying to think of a way to explain that didn't make it seem as absurd as it sort of was.

"My husband had to leave to fight in a war... Very very far away." Her ears drooped a bit. "I know he's safe, and alive, and happy. But he won't be able to return to us."
