Why do people on the end of the line at credit card companies talk to you like they are doing you a favor?

So, Part 1 did not totally succeed - the new card I was offered had a measly limit of $400.  Excuse me?  It was obvious from my application that I was looking to transfer money ( Read more... )

It is REALLY hard to get out of the thumb of those creditors and credit cards once they have their hooks in you. It took me quite a while to get rid of ALL of my debt minus my student loans and car payments and I pretty much had to do exactly what you are doing now. It is far to easy to just pull out that credit card when you are a little short on cash and use it just a little bit here and a little bit there until the amount owed balloons. Part of the other way I had to do this was to just get rid of my credit cards completely.

After a few years, I decided a little one with a SMALL limit would be alright. So, I currently have a card with a $500 limit on it to which I'm just fine with. It isn't enough that if I run it up it will break me so I can have it in case of an emergency but it is low enough that I have an automatic wall should I suddenly decide to go spending crazy.

I will admit, that I'm quite tempted to cancel this card and get a card that has rewards and I don't have to pay an annual fee on. I get enough of those much better offers that it is tempting but if I do this, it is something that I'm going to have to think long and hard about. I liked getting married with good credit, being able to easily buy a house, etc.
