Why do people on the end of the line at credit card companies talk to you like they are doing you a favor?
So, Part 1 did not totally succeed - the new card I was offered had a measly limit of $400. Excuse me? It was obvious from my application that I was looking to transfer money from one card to another, of an amount larger than $400. Thanks for nothing Chase. I forgot why I hated you.
I am reminded.
So, I immediately called them and cancelled the card without having ever activated it. That won’t look perfect on my credit report, but I was NOT going to play that game.
That means that my 0% introductory rate and rate of 18.99% are now gone. I’m stuck with the evil Discover rate of 24.99%. This causes me to reorganize my snowball report, and the date of payoff becomes 20 months instead of 18. Two months. I can do that.
But, instead, today I decided to attempt the impossible - I was going to call Dell and see if they would lower my rate. Initially, they acted as if I was far too unredeemable. But then they lowered my rate by 4%. 24.99% is the rate now.
So, that causes me to, again, reorganize my snowball sheet to pay off a different card first. That’s ok though. The months stayed the same.
But it was utterly frustrating. In the mean time, other cards offer to increase my limit - all while telling me I’m unable to get lower rates. What a machine this is.
