Too Deep in the Fandom (rambling)

This post will not be analyzing or informing you about anything, I'm just talking about myself.

If you know me at all you'd know that I am no stranger to fandoms and am very experienced in the art of being a fan. Embracing Star Wars at the age of 12 and finding comfort in online communities by age 13 I am no stranger to the nature of the anti fan as ( Read more... )

A very intriguing post. :o To be perfectly honest with you, when the whole lawsuit began, I was really happy that JYJ were suing SM because I had heard some bad rumors about SM prior (water diets, beatings, etc.) But when HoMin sided with SM on this, I was unsettled. I did think that there may have been a strain on their friendship or something. I became a fan of TVXQ in late 2007, and like you I looked up alot about TVXQ's prior activities. I was also looking up things about other singers under SM too (like H.O.T. and Shinhwa and how their relationship with SM). It was fun being a fan at that time.

When JYJ first formed, I really didn't mind. And I knew HoMin were doing photoshoots and filming their dramas, so to me they were still doing things. :D In a sense I was quite unsettled with the news that HoMin would continue musical activities using the name 'TVXQ'. It made me a bit upset that they could use it and the others couldn't since they were blocked off. And then the words of fans from both sides can get to you too. I used to chat with Cassies on the official fanboard for TVXQ, but I stopped recently as it has been taken over by HoMin fans. And now that there are sites popping up for "only JYJ" or "only HoMin" it is hard for a fan who is trying to believe in all 5 to find a place. It is funny...I am Changmin-biased and yet I really hope for JYJ to win. It may seem like I really don't like HoMin, but my dislike lies with SM itself. All I really want is for everyone to just say the truth though. -.- I mean, if they do then fans would totally understand and things could've gotten cleared up faster. Maybe all are in the wrong? Who knows? :o

Anyway, I don't regret being a fan of TVXQ/JYJ and I really hope that things get reconciled soon. My selfish wish is to see them all 5 on stage again (because I missed out on all other opportunities). And now that it seems like other Kpop groups are suffering as well, I'd have to say that the Korean entertainment industry is in need of some huge revisions. I don't know how many times I've said that now. But I'm sorry for posting this very long comment. Forgive me~! In fact, your post has inspired me to write something like this in my own LJ...tomorrow. XD

Yea, I get what you mean. I wasn't angry at JYJ when the lawsuit started, in fact I was cheering them on and at the time I was kind of waiting for...idk...a followup lawsuit to be started by HoMin because the concept of one half of the group wanting to leave didn't want to register in my brain. I had also heard bad things about SM so this is why from the beginning I've been rooting for JYJ to win and get themselves out of there. I hate SM just as much as the next person, Changmin biased or not. :P

When I said "when JYJ first became JYJ I was angry" I'm talking about the official formation of a new unit later in 2010. I guess at the time it felt like although HoMin and JYJ were in two separate bubbles, those bubbles were at least close to each other, but when JYJ formed their new unit it felt like they crossed some invisible barrier of no return? It felt like with that new unit they were saying goodbye to DBSK if you get what I mean so that's why I was angry at first. At the same time I was happy that they'd be singing again so they could get back up on their feet again because when you get three emotional guys brooding day after day it can't be very good for morale. I thought working would make them happier.

But I still got a little sad when they released their first album, then again with their second album because every time they did that they were making this separation between them and HoMin that much greater. But again at the same time I was happy that they were finally succeeding and that they seemed to be happy again.

So if HoMin were the first ones to release an album while JYJ was off rotting in a corner I would've felt like that was HoMin saying that they didn't need the other members. However, by the time HoMin came out with their album, JYJ was well on their way to releasing their third album. And although HoMin were using the name DBSK it felt like JYJ had in some way intentionally removed themselves from the name so I guess that's why I wasn't that angry or shocked when it happened. At the same time it felt really wrong calling HoMin "DBSK" because obviously they're just half of DBSK.

I read something about a month ago that said that the members of DBSK were actually the ones who legally owned the name DBSK. It described all of the times the rights to the names were discussed and in the end it belonged to the members. So assuming that in order for the name DBSK to be used, all five members must say yes. It is this that makes me think that at some point HoMin and JYJ would've had to come into some sort of direct or indirect contact with each other for HoMin to come back under the name DBSK. Since JYJ is sad that they're using the name DBSK I think although it's quite possible that JYJ are the ones that allowed SM/HoMin to use "DBSK," they only allowed it to not create trouble for HoMin by restricting them in that way since they probably figured that SM were the ones that told HoMin that they wanted them to come back with the name DBSK if you get what I mean...

I can see why you would initially get upset about JYJ forming another group. I must have treated it like how Super Junior would break into subgroups. Also, at that time I was keeping up more with Changmin and all his photo shoots for ELLE Magazine and whatnot. I also feel uneasy when calling HoMin "TVXQ" for the same reason you stated. And when you speak to a new Cassie (or even an old one) they can be talking about either TVXQ as 5 or as 2. So it can be a bit confusing. When I say it though, I am talking about all 5. :D

Really? So they had the rights to the name? Well, darn! Then the two can leave WITH the name much like how Shinhwa left. I think I understood your last part. You were saying that in order for HoMin to come back, they had to do it with the name, right? :o But what's really the big deal? I mean, I know that "TVXQ" as a name is a very sentimental word for fans, but it also brings in money. I know that was Yunho's concern and the reason for staying because he wanted to keep the name alive. But to me, I wouldn't mind if they abandoned the name because it is the members themselves I care for. If HoMin's leaving meant losing the band name, the fanclub's name, or the official color (flannel anyone?)...I wouldn't mind because I just wanted them to be together. There was something else I wanted to add, but I can't remember... XD

Why homin should leave sm? leave to where? They can't get along with c-jes,this company is just a joke. and changmin didn't like jyj's music concept at all,he had found his own way in the music style. Even if homin leave sm,the five won't together.

Although I would really like all five of them to be out of SM and still in a group together, I think HoMin fit better with SM. It's kind of like...choosing a college. JYJ is a good fit for c-jes because they like to try all sorts of crazy things and have that next level of artistic freedom while HoMin work really nice with the staff at SM and they can work together with others in the company to produce really good albums. Of course I kind of wish JYJ found a more reliable company than c-jes but any company can make mistakes from time to time.
