Hi! I searched back through the tags and found a tiny note about this 4 years ago, but I was hoping for some more advice. Our friend's cat just had kittens and we're adopting one. In a few months they are old enough we would like to get him/her spayed/neutered. I read that some cities subsidize this, but does anyone know anything more? My Japanese ( Read more... )

There is a non profit organization - dobutsutachi-no-kai - by a German Lady living in Hino (Tokyo). She or her volunteers will come to your place, pick your cat(s)/dog(s) up and deliver them back after the operation. The costs are 10.000 Yen plus a delivering fee, as far as I remember. She speaks German, English and Japanese.
When you call her, she will write down your number and call you, when they do the next tour. You'll get your pet(s) back usually after a few days, depending on their route. She has a full time job and does this in her free time, so don't be impatient. Also, donations of any kind are allways greatly appreciated and will fully be used to help animals.
Her name is Mrs. Herold, her mail adress is studionada@docomo.ne.jp. Her phone number is 090-3234-6839.
I did an internship there a while back and she is really passionate about animal protection.
Everyone: If you're looking to adopt a pet, she rescues pets from pounds before they are killed. She can only do this, if there are families to adopt them! Never buy a pet in a store in Japan as there are far to many being put down every day all over Japan! Any pet that is not cute (as in basically any grown pet) usually has no chance of getting adopted in Japan. Spay/neuter your pet to reduce the number of homeless pets. Keep that in mind and spread the word.
