Antique stores in Tokyo/Kyoto?

Feb 26, 2011 22:54

My parents are coming to visit in the beginning of May, and I was wondering if anybody knew of any decent antique stores in Tokyo or Kyoto I can take my mom to. By antique stores, I don't mean really expensive collections of art and furniture, where you can't touch anything and everything is delicately displayed...I grew up in North Carolina, where antique stores were huge and just chock full of the most random, interesting crap. Some of it was valuable, some of it was pretty worthless. And there were always deals to be found and even if there wasn't anything worth buying, it was fun to look at everything.

So I'd like to surprise my mom and go out and take her to do what we used to do back at home. Are there any places like that in the Tokyo or Kyoto?

I appreciate any ideas/recommendations! :D

EDIT: oh wow, thanks everyone for the great suggestions!

kyoto, tokyo, clothes/shopping
