Hello!
I'm currently preparing to enter a university in Shiga-ken. I'm not doing a one-year study abroad, I'm preparing to enter as an "international student" and enroll as normal and get a bachelors there. I've already been accepted and I'm preparing the necessary things for my visa (and sending the rest of my 学費 as I've already sent the 入金) but as I was preparing these documents (sent by my school) I noticed that in the Letter of Guarantee I need to have to have someone in Japan to be my guarantor. (日本住在)
When I studied abroad through the American university I went to, I only needed my mother to sign for this and provide adequate proof (bank account statement) that she could provide for me should anything happen. (Legalese stuff really, repatriation costs and should I encounter trouble with the law.) This time it seems absolutely necessary that I have to have someone in Japan do it (already I researched this, doesn't need to be Japanese per se but anyway...). Here in lies the problem, I don't have anyone who I can ask for this as this is a lot of responsibility. Most of my friends are college students around the same age as I am, and the adults (full-time employed people) I know would not agree to such responsibility (you know most Japanese people, well most people in general wouldn't do this unless for a family member.) So in my case there really is no one but my mom and she's not located in Japan, just US.
I've emailed my school (but they're a tad slow on response so I hope to hear from them tomorrow.) As I am paying for myself technically, my mom is not helping with tuition or living expenses, I can only really do what I did last time and have my mom agree to sign and show a bank statement for emergency purposes (she understands the situation and has agreed.) But I was wondering if any of you have has experiences like this and what did you end up doing? Will Immigration allow me to have my mother or will they require me to have someone living in Japan? I don't have anyone I feel comfortable asking (asking my own mother is hard enough haha.) (Furthermore for someone who is Japanese you have to sign with your 印 and so if I could find someone to do it I would have to send it to them first and have them send it to my school, ugh.)
Unfortunately time is of the essence now and I still have to send my tuition moneys but I didn't want to send that first without the documents.
Anyway, sorry for rambling. Any advise? I have only a little while before school begins in April and I'd still have to apply for the visa here in the US too.
よろしくお願いします!
