I'm a Canadian who's lived in Australia for four years. In that time, I've incorporated a large number of Aussie slang words and phrases into my lexicon. The prosody of my speech has even become more Australian - although, of course, I still have an identifiably Canadian accent

Here's a little expat rant I just posted in my own journal.If I can understand all of you when you speak English, even with your laughable "I am Ole, he is Sven" Flinstones-esque accents and execrable grammar, why can't you understand me when I speak your language with a slight "American" accent -- even when I space my words and overpronounce
