After the AFL

It was FUN!!

We had a great time. It's been a wonderful day. Started out well at home, with lots of fun, kids happy and off to the baby sitters. Went to the shops and got my new hubby a present. It's one of those pocket knives with everything on it. He's very happy with it, which is cool.

On to the town where the Walkabout is. Got some food, wandered over to a park. They call them Greens here. Acton Green, Shepherd's Bush Green, Hammond Green. Or else they are Commons - Ealing Common, etc. Strange people. Anyway, we wandered over to the PARK and sat and watched about fifty Aussies throwing themselves around after a funny shaped ball, most of whom where also emptying cans of Foster's and bladders of ex-Foster's at a great rate. Hey, they have these things called Street Urinals here. Guys stand there in the street and, well, urinate. Very strange people.

Wandered into the pub after a bit and got to stand in a corner and watched the Game on five or seventeen tv's around the room. Including one of those enormous projection screens. It was cool being around all those Aussies. I felt very Australian.

The game was rubbish. It was immensely Aussie to stand around drinking, bawling the National Anthem at the top of our voices (mumble mumble ADVANCE AUSTRALIA FAIR!!!, mumble mumble ADVANCE AUSTRALIA FAIR!!) and abusing the players at a very bad game of football. It did pick up a bit by the last quarter and actually was quite good.

Then we all got to sing Down Under at the tops of our voices (it's amazing how many of us got the words to THAT right) and wobble off to eat spare ribs with our ears still ringing.

We wandered home, after filling up the empty corners at another pub on the way and a quick snooze on the bus home, for one of us anyway - who got off the bus, decided to try out his new knife and promptly cut himself. Then he got all upset cos I laughed at him. All the way home.

So we sit here now, drinking some more wine to fill those corners that incessantly get unfilled.

Twas a very good day.
