Has anyone figured out a non-rude way to steer locals out of english and back into the local tongue when you ask them to repeat something? Sometimes I just do not hear something correctly, or was not paying attention, and when I ask for a repetition, they stop speaking french and start speaking (badly) English.
English is not my native language, and depending on the accent, I have much worse problems than if they would just stick to french. Every time I have asked them to please remain with French, they have seemed upset.
Has anyone managed to stop the locals from speaking English? I know they want to practice, but I am certainly not a good subject.
