Hello all. I'm a New Zealander currently living in Australia. Previously I have lived in South Korea and Singapore (my parents and younger brother are still living there now). Basically I have been living outside of my native country for almost half of my life. I am considering taking a year off my studies to teach English in Rome, but first I need to find out some things:
1. How difficult is it for a non-European citizen to open a bank account in Italy, and what exactly will I need to open one?
2. Where are the best places to live in Rome? (I'm looking at both cost and safety issues. If there are any websites you could direct me to, that would be great)
3. How safe is it at night for women?
4. How difficult is it to get a visa, and how long will it typically take? (This is especially difficult for me, because when I visit my parents in Singapore for three months, I need to get my visa renewed every month, so I have about three weeks maximum to get a Visa).
5. Can anyone recommend any good Italian language websites or books to me?
6. As a back-up, what are some good au pair agencies?
If you can answer even one of these questions, I'll be grateful. Thanks in advance!
