for those of you with shitty monitors, it says "Push Button, Receive Bacon, Eat Bacon"
i saw Casino Royale with Taylor last night, on a whim. What an awesome movie. seriously. it was amazing. no stupid gadgets, no ridiculous stunts, no superhuman villains. the stunts that WERE in the film were reasonably realistic.. well, as far as movies go anyhow. you'd think so too if you've seen stuff like the movie Ong Bak or
this video [ps: mute your speakers, unless you like eminem. in which case, wtf are you doing reading my journal? GTFO. .... ... i keed i keed :(]. Edit: I guess I should mention that there are still some eyerolly parts, namely involving automatic rifles. but WHATEVER.
the new Bond brings the character to a new level, to the point where he's more than just a ladies man with a gun. I always used to think that Pierce Brosnan looked just as I always thought James Bond should, but in hindsight i guess i was a fucking retard. Daniel Craig played an awesome Bond last night and my only gripe with the film is that it ran a little long, but I suppose it needed to.
as for the actual experience resulting from deciding to see a Bond movie on opening night at the last minute, it was nothing short of shitty. those of you who've gone to the movies with me know that i like to get there early because, fuck, if i'm paying that much to see a movie i want a frigging good seat to see it from (of course, this requirement varies from film to film. but it holds entirely true for action movies or, rather, movies containing action). well, that wasn't the case. when we got there, the lineup of people (mostly adults, some with their kids... something else that's different for me) was being let into the theater. i managed to get in there just as everyone in line had settled into a seat.
the only seats left were on the far left and far right, and the first 3 rows. after 5 minutes, we gave up looking and walked into the 3rd row from the front while still looking around and randomly asking people if those seats next to them were taken. the ground was sticky. very sticky. you could hear our walking noise based on the sound of sticky bonds to the soles of our shoes being broken at every lift. we finally got to the middle of the row when the mature couple in the 4th row (ie: row behind us) said "are you guys just looking for 2 seats? we can move over one if you like". and thus it was.
but the ground was still sticky in that row. to top it all off, i dont think 4th from the front is really much better than 3rd from the front, but at least we were in front of the middle of the screen. i couldn't put my schoolbag down due to the ground being really sticky because apparently every douchebag sitting in the theater from the last movie seemed to have spilled their drink. and so i sat there, head back, with my bag on my lap. sticky ground, noisy people, hot stuffy room, uncomfortable sitting position just to get a view. i guess it didnt help that i hadn't eaten anything all day either..
eventually i got used to it, or the movie just roped me in. i dont know, pick one. but i'm strongly considering seeing it again, when the theatrical experience won't fuggin blow so much. it really was a great movie, and even though some of you may cringe at the thought of seeing a movie twice in theaters, i consider it my own little way of paying back the industry for all the other movies i *don't* see in theaters or rent or buy... which i suppose would be the majority of movies i've watched in the past 2 years.
elizabeth (pka Liz²) and i are going to see Borat tonight with a bunch of her friends. eating dinner first, and possibly dessert afterwards. I've heard the movie is just one big long Jew joke. does it make me a horrible person if i think that's funny?
