First session FWF- callbacks for leads in all seven shows. Got ensemble in Kite's craptacular.
At the audition, they're looking for versatility. They're looking for a positive contribution to the cast, they're looking for originality, for joie de vivre- and joy onstage. All that PASSION and good stuff that you have in bunches. They're looking for someone who can sing the shit out of their audition song.
(For Grease- you want something poppy. Don't sing something period and belty, all the boys are pop singers. Don't do Martin Guerre or something of that ilk, do something like Lippa's the Wild Party (Poor Child might actually be really good for you... but I don't know it too well))
At the callback, however, they're looking to see how well you fit into the possible roles. What's your take on the role, how will you do it differently and better than the next guy. Something that makes it click BOOM HE IS IT! So, you have to be able to breathe the role at the callback, and that's what gets tricky. Sometimes they're also looking here for how you take direction, if they ask you to do it a different way.
But really, get something poppy and pure for Grease. and enjoy auditioning! It's a mini-performance!!
Best of luck ES!
