Title: Become a True Man!!
Word count: 332
Rating: PG
Series: Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann
Notes: Let it be known that this is the first time I've written Kamina or Simon, and so have no idea how terribly I've bastardized them. |D Tis a gift for Kyoudai! Uhm. This way, it's kind of happy? But if you want to read it in all its depressing glory, highlight the end bit, after what Kamina says. |D I'm so sorry, Kyoudai. I didn't mean for it to be depressing. D8
"Huuuu! This is pretty nice, na, Shimon?! Aren't you glad we came to the surface?!" He throws himself down onto the blanket next to Simon and stretches out, pointed glasses set aside where they won't accidentally get stepped on. Wide-eyed grin, and he rolls onto his stomach, staring out at the wide, wide sea. "Bet you never thought something like this existed, huh?"
He stares at it too, a smile on his face, and shakes his head. "Mm, I had no idea! It's beautiful!" A brief glance down at his aniki, and then he leans back, watching the rest of the Gurren-dan. Despite the noise they're making, somehow, it's peaceful. Maybe it wouldn't be so bad to stay here like this. Simon shades his eyes with one hand and looks up at the sky, nearly blinded by how brillantly bright it is. His smile widens. Yeah, he could definitely get used to this.
A whistle, and he's brought back to earth, looking at Kamina. "And what a nice view, too!" He looks to see what he's talking about, and his cheeks turn slightly red as he averts his eyes. Yoko and Nia, a little ways away, in their bathing suits. Kamina grins at him. "You agree, huh? Yosh! Shimon! This is what becoming a man is all about!" He jumps up, pointing one finger high up at the sky. "Throwing reason out the door! Following your dreams! Living and always standing up for what you believe in!"
"Ah-- Aniki..." He looks past him to see Kiyal, Kinon, and Leeron giggling, and scratches the side of his head, a little embarrassed. "A-ah, shouldn't you put your shorts back on first?"
"Haaaaaaah? Shimon! A true man is never afraid to show his true colors!" He frowns. "Besides, all this annoying sand was getting stuck in my shorts! It's everywhere! Why the hell would I--" He glances back, following Simon's gaze, and grimaces. Sits back down, and pulls his swim shorts back on, crossing his arms over his chest as he pouts. A manly pout. "Like I was saying. A true man knows what he wants! You can't let anything stop you, or none of it means anything!!"
Simon laughs a little, leaning back again. "I understand, Aniki."
A grin. "Do you really?"
He pauses, then nods, eyes trained on the glittering sea. "I do."
"Good! Then you're on your way to becoming a true man!" A pause. Then, voice quiet, "Shimon. Never stop believing in yourself. If you do, that is the day that everything you've worked towards becomes pointless."
He's silent for a moment, and it seems like all the sounds around them have vanished, save for the crashing of the waves, and their voices. "I know, Aniki."
Kamina smiles at him, then looks out at the sea, clapping a hand on his shoulder. "Good. Become an even better man than me, Shimon. Follow your heart, and if things go badly, fight your way through it. You can do it."
He's still smiling, even as he feels a tear run down his cheek. "I know, Aniki."
"Make me proud, Shimon. I believe in you."
"I know, and I will."
And he wakes up to the darkness of his room, just a few minutes before his alarm clock is set to go off. He stands and walks to the window, and pulls open the curtains, looking out over Kamina City. Brushes away the tears on his face, and and goes to start another day.
