Yep, I enjoyed the weekend, even if it kinda derailed some of my Christmas shopping.
On Friday at lunch I had to go to Target because I was about out of an important prescription. I also needed cat food (they don't sell the kind my cats eat at the store that's walking-distance from me) and a snow shovel. Target didn't have those, so after a ridiculous snarl in the parking lot - at least everyone was polite about it! - I made my way to Home Depot. Shovel: done. Sweet. Of course these errands which ordinarily would have taken about 45 minutes took an hour and a quarter, but ah well. The afternoon at the office was a bit of a joke, it seemed like most people took off early or weren't there that day at all.
On the way home I swung into the village center across the street. The Food Lion was prohibitively crowded, so even though I did actually need milk (sigh), it could wait until the next day when I could walk over. So I went to the liquor store and got Irish cream instead. Then, home! Hurrah! Part of me thought of going out to dinner or something before getting snowed in, but really, all I wanted to do was relax at home. I think I was ready to be snowed in.
And sure enough I was! Friday night was mainly watching stuff off the DVR and talking with
bonnykate on the phone. I crashed right around midnight and woke up around 9:30, apparently for good. Guess I was excited? Also knew it wasn't like I was going to be out late that night or anything. I had taken a photo out the window at around 11:30 p.m. the night before, about an hour after it started snowing, and I took one at 5 a.m.-ish when I fed the cats. I took more when I woke up. (Snow pics available
here!) I had breakfast and lazed around a bit then decided to shower and walk to the store. Of course I had no idea if it would be open, but I like going out for walks in the snow regardless. The plows were trying to stay ahead of the snow so I was only walking in a few inches, instead of a foot, of snow on the way. Foot traffic and what little vehicle traffic there was were stuck sharing a roadway. It was silent and peaceful and lovely. I got to the store, which was open, got the few things I needed and a few things I didn't, then walked home. This time walking was more into the wind, which was annoying, but it was still nice. Once home, I made the brownie-cheesecake cupcakes (stuff I didn't need!) and fixed a snack. Then I curled up on the couch for about 4 hours and finally finished Under the Dome! Woo! For the evening I switched back to DVR catch-up. Then I went to bed!
Sun was out in the morning and the storm was indeed over. No one was going anywhere without a lot of digging. Around 10 a.m. I had a Luna bar, put on the previous day's snow-clothes, and set out. Two and a half hours later I had an uncovered car and parking space and sore arms. Freedom! Of course I didn't go anywhere for fear of losing my hard-carved space! When I came back in I had a PROPER breakfast, making pancakes and bacon. YUM! I showered, then mainly lazed. I emailed pictures to my mom and brother. My brother emailed pictures to me and Mom. Around 3 p.m.
msteleute hit me up on Twitter re: possibly grabbing dinner. I called her and
necrocannibal and a plan happened. They got their car out and came to get me, and we went to Victoria's! It was a little spendy, but I hadn't been there in a while and that venison chili was JUST the thing! Yum! By the time we got home it was a little after 6 p.m. (we went while it was still light out). The roads weren't great but were passable, though sure to get icier later. I cleaned, and listened to Christmas music, and relaxed, and watched TV, and it was all lovely.
Now, of course, I have the last of the shopping to do during hurried lunch hours and after work. Le sigh. But, nothing to be done - usually leaving it to the last weekend is not the greatest, but not likely to be sabotaged by a Snowpocalypse. Not this year, though! For once, the two-day weekend felt like a real rest, though, not just a pause, so that was a nice gift in and of itself.
