Last winter was cold. It was very evident that this house is not insulated. Our heating bills are pretty high. (The flip side was that our house was stiflingly hot during the summer.) I know I've been gone for a while, but holy crap is food expensive over here. I acknowledge that we eat a lot of meat and try to eat organic and whatnot, but I just.... wow. We've not found a tasty affordable source of happy (ethical, sustainable, organic grass fed) meat, so we've cut way back on meat consumption. I'm not buying from the co-op. ( Read more... )

This entire trip has reminded me of a few things. First, mass market, factory foods in the US are disgusting and are barely food at all. The amount of sugar and fake shit in most foods is disturbing.
