I'm not sure what's changed, but for me the show has lost a lot of its luster this season. It could just be a trick of memory, but it seem preachier/more obvious with The Lesson each week etc., more labored. The whole Karofsky plot seems very clumsy/awkward too. Meanwhile, I've watched the first two episodes episodes 2 and 3 of Glee -- I think I like it so far. I especially like Jane Lynch as the evil cheerleading coach.
