I wouldn't call this the best Discworld novel ever (I think my vote for that honor would go to Monstrous Regiment, which, incidentally, can be read without having read any of the other Pratchett novels). I'm probably not telling anyone who cares and didn't already know (I'm catching up on almost a week's worth of LJ), but Douglas Adams' wife has asked Eoin Colfer, "the Irish author of a number of books (including the popular children's book series 'Artemis Fowl')" to write a sixth Hitchhiker's book.

Just learned via boingboing that Robert Lynn Asprin passed away yesterday. I always enjoyed the Myth series, even though some of the execution was a bit labored, and the Phule series (or the first two books anyway) seemed to suffer from going-through-the-motions syndrome but he wrote interesting characters and relationships between them.
