Siegfried & Roy break ground on new park

Clark County and McCarran Airport marked the start of construction on the Siegfried and Roy Park Thursday afternoon. The parks two namesakes, legendary famed illusionists, Siegfried Fischbacher and Roy Horn were on hand for the ground breaking ceremony.

The 20-acre park will have a walking trail, two tennis courts, a splash pad, and a range of playground equipment suitable for toddlers through pre-teens. Parking goers will also have access to parking from Maryland Parkway and Lady Marlene Avenue.

Glad to hear they're still around. I never did get to see their act at the Mirage and they have pretty much disappeared since the incident (though apparently they did a benefit at one point). I Googled around a bit.

about.com has a page just about the incident, heh. "However, in an exclusive interview for KLAS TV, Steve Wynn, builder of the Mirage, has pieced together an entirely different explanation, taken from various accounts of people who were there." And his explanation is along the same lines as Horn's. It definitely sounds *plausible* to me, although I guess only the tiger really knows. Unfortunately he died earlier this year.
