changmin was not a fond believer of the term ‘fate.’ bluntly put, he thought it was absolute bullshit. only deluded subspecies of humans - which made up approximately 98% of the world, leaving changmin in the minority 2% - would irrationally use that pathetic excuse of an expression to explain happenstance.

changmin also has a very annoying friend that loves to dabble in 'fate'. so, to changmin's despair, he finds himself in the college's most popular café every saturday at noon. why is he there? to meet with a blind date that his lovely friend has so happily set up for him. declining to go would only mean death for him; kyuhyun doesn't take nos too well.

today, saturday, is a perfect day for a blind date. changmin begrudgingly admits that. he gets to the café early - as he always does -, orders a cup of vienna coffee, and takes his usual seat by the floor length window that doubles as a wall. he'll sit, comfortable in the plush chair, and as he sips at his coffee, glance out the window at people walking by, going about their lives.

then, when he's about halfway through his drink, his date will arrive, and changmin always realized the split second before she has to physically open her mouth to say something. he'll jump up, nearly upending his mug and tipping his chair over. he'd pull her seat out, and once she's settled, he'll take his own seat. he goes through the first few routine conversational starters he always uses, uses these as a gauge to how interesting the girl is before going with the flow. going with the flow because he knows he'll never see her again.

when they part, changmin will give her a polite kiss to the cheek, and he'll remain standing as she leaves the café. changmin, alone, will settle back down, gaze at the dregs of coffee in the mug, and glance up.

his eyes will lock with another pair, almond-shaped, dark brown, tender.

it's a silent bet with himself as to who will look away first. he always loses.

when he loses, changmin simply glances back down at his lap - an attempt to hide the tinge along his cheekbones. when he finally chances another look, that pair of eyes will be gone.

one saturday, the moment changmin steps out of the café, changmin realizes he doesn't even know the name behind that pair of eyes that he's been looking at for the past few months.

---

changmin declines kyuhyun's offer for another blind date the following week.

instead, heart still pounding from the mere act of having to tell kyuhyun no, changmin heads to the café, skips ordering his coffee, and makes a beeline for the table opposite his usual.

"hey," he says, voice a little sandpapery.

the college boy at the table turns around, and changmin feels a whoosh of breath leave his lungs when those eyes find his.

"hi," comes the response.

changmin doesn't know what to say to that.

those eyes search his, and changmin sees a twinkle of laughter rise to the irises.

"take a seat," the boy says, and changmin pulls out a chair.

"i'm yunho."

yunho.

"changmin," he offers in return.

"no date today?" yunho asks, stirring the spoon in his mug.

changmin flushes. "no, i guess not."

"why not?"

changmin opens his mouth to give an answer, but realizes that the truth would be highly awkward for the both of them. so he says instead, "my friend got tired of setting up dates for me."

yunho raises his eyebrows. "tired?"

"it always ends after the first date," changmin shrugs.

"and why's that?"

"i'm never interested," changmin says, and that's the truth.

yunho looks away and smiles.

---

that day, changmin goes back to his dorm room and tells kyuhyun to stop setting me up for blind dates.

kyuhyun simply shrugs and doesn't ask why - to him, he figures that fate doesn't like changmin at all.

changmin still goes to the café every saturday, but he doesn't approach yunho again. he takes his usual seat, with his usual drink, and so does yunho.

everything falls back into routine, the only thing different being the lack of a date for changmin. it's not like he minds though, he revels in the peacefulness around him. that, and how his eyes always seem to find yunho's - and vice versa - whenever either one of them would look up.

yunho will always leave first, pushing his chair back in, and sending changmin a small smile before turning on his heel and leaving the café. changmin will stay in his seat just to watch yunho's retreating back. and once it's out of his sight, changmin leaves, too.

this goes on for another three months.

then one of them cracks.

---

changmin nearly scalds his tongue when yunho suddenly slides into view right in front of him.

"sorry," yunho apologizes, handing changmin a napkin. "didn't mean to startle you."

"it's alright," changmin coughs, and dabs at his lips before mopping up a small puddle of coffee on the marble tabletop.

"i wanted to ask you something," yunho says, interlacing his fingers together and placing it on the table.

"sure, go ahead," changmin replies, playing with the cream on his coffee with his spoon.

"go out with me," yunho says.

changmin looks at him carefully.

"that's not a question," he finally says, the corner of his mouth lifting.

yunho breaks out into a wide smile.

"will you go out with me on a date?"

"yes," changmin answers, and takes a sip of his coffee to hide the smile he knows is gracing his face.

---

they set a date for the next saturday - just to keep tradition - and to meet up at the café - another tradition. but yunho doesn't keep the date at the café. he brings changmin to the college park, to a little hidden pocket of the park that apparently no one seems to know about, hidden by tall, thick trees and shrubs.

"i got you your usual," yunho says, and produces a thermos full of vienna coffee. changmin takes it with a silly grin, complete with mismatched eyes.

changmin sits on a tuft of lush grass, and watches curiously as yunho bustles about.

yunho finally stops moving - out of a bush, he produces a wicker basket. changmin feels his jaw drop open.

"i had this feeling you're a food person, and i didn't want to bomb the date by not having food around," yunho explains, settling down next to changmin and opening the basket.

"did you make these?" changmin asks, peeking into the basket and spying a large package of sandwiches with a bunch of fruits to the side.

"i did," yunho confirms, "i made three different types, two of each, one with crust and one without, because i didn't know which you would prefer. i'd assume without crust?"

changmin's speechless.

then, acting on pure instinct, he leans in and pecks yunho on the cheek. "yeah, without."

yunho simply hands changmin a sandwich, but not before unwrapping it. changmin bites into it with great gusto.

when changmin has easily polished off the three sandwiches, yunho drops a package of strawberries in his hands.

"wait," he says, and pulls out a bottle of nutella.

"god, i love nutella," changmin exclaims, and proceeds to open the package of strawberries up.

a few strawberries through, changmin pauses.

"here," he says, a little shyly, and offers one to yunho.

"thank you," yunho says softly, and lets changmin feed it to him.

---

they meet without fail every saturday; it becomes something changmin looks forward to during the entire school week.

one saturday a few weeks before summer break, yunho turns changmin's world upside down.

changmin's in the middle of talking about this annoying boy called junsu in his math class when yunho kisses him full on the lips for the first time.

"ajhdfgkaldhfg?" changmin says when yunho pulls away.

"i'm sorry?" yunho replies, a tad confused and nervous.

changmin closes his mouth, shakes his head, and pulls yunho back towards him.

"please tell me you're officially my boyfriend," yunho says against changmin's lips.

"i'm officially your boyfriend," changmin says breathlessly, and buries his fingers in yunho's hair.

"oh good," yunho manages to say before tumbling to the ground, pulling changmin down with him.

---

changmin was not a fond believer of the term ‘fate.’

but now, he thinks 'fate' isn't as stupid as he thought it was.

in fact, he thinks as he noses along yunho's jaw, yunho's hands snug on his hips, he rather likes the idea of 'fate' now
