So I know I bitched about how disappointed I was with how Turkey day was turning out (and truth be told, i was in a funk all day today from about 12 pm to 6 pm when we left for my uncles).
I did a bit of running before we were to leave (and FUCK i broke my ipod...shit man) but then took a shower and changed into my holiday outfit. Well, it was khakis and this red and white dress shirt. And somehow just putting on different clothes started to put me into a better mood. As soon as I got there, I saw my cousins and all was fine. It was nice having a bunch of the cousins together. The main focus of the evening of course was the food. My uncle got a turkey as a present or some ish so my aunt cooked it up and somehow the gravy was on the bottom of the pan. For the past two years (including this year)(and i did some carving when i was in evanston/chicago for my NU thanksgivings), I've been the carver of the bird. Maybe I like the power. Maybe I like wielding the knife. For some reason, I think it's pretty fun to cut the bird up. So i went at it with the bird. I was kinda curious why all the meat i was cutting from the top was dark meat (later i found that the white meat was all on the bottom, so they had the bird upside down). I had some salad and some other veggies, but had maybe 5 or 6 plates of just meat. In addition to the turkey, we had this ham my mom got from costco. So much meat. It was just nice camraderie; and as i get older, i find that i can converse with the adults as well as the kids and it's just more fun. AND my sister, bro in law, and niece showed up halfway through dinner so i was like 'YAY the rest of my family (miss you cindy) is here' because they were at mark's parents place.
Part II of thanksgiving. We headed over to deeho's house because they have a party every year. They had a crapload of food left. So what did i do? i got the knife and started cutting up the bird (no i didn't eat any more of it, but put it in a box that i was gonna take with me). The eating did NOT stop after the first meal. This was basically the dessert part of turkey day dinner (extended version). We had this really super good cake that my aunt makes and then we had tea, then fruit, then this soupy dessert thingy. I haven't talked much with deeho and his bro, superman. So it was nice to talk to them a bit. I'm kinda saddened by how our relationship is. It's been cyclical over the years. Like there were times where i would hang out with them on a fairly regular basis (even going to vegas with them once) and then there are times where we don't talk at all. I guess it's because we're following different paths in life or something.
The funny event of the night: I left my phone at my first uncle's place when i went over to deeho's and didn't realize it until i was already at deeho's. So we were gonna go pick up the phone after we were done for the evening. While my phone was at my first uncle's, JAG called and i guess my aunt or someone picked up my phone and jag tried to leave his name, eventually somehow they got the right name. I just think it's funny they picked up my phone. haha. no harm done i suppose.
oy i'm stuffed still.
