How Writing Regularly Changed My Life and How You Can Get Started.

I've been trying to motivate myself to write more (hint: figure out how to disable Facebook and Ravelry for a couple of hours each day), so seeing a link to this article - on Facebook, naturally - was serendipitous.

Once, I tried doing "The Artist's Way." It makes writing morning pages - that's three pages of uncensored, stream-of-consciousness writing, EVERY day - mandatory. I didn't mind doing that, but stalled at Week 5 (?), where you have to indulge in "reading deprivation" for a week. Yes, a whole week. Julia Cameron's reasoning for including reading deprivation was so condescending that I chucked the book and stopped doing TAW altogether.

The author recommends Day One (a journal app) which, miracle of miracles, was a free app in the iTunes App Store this past week. I managed to write one line when testing out the program.

Writing has helped my memory, it’s made me happier, and given me a sense of pride in a habit that I believe is hard to crack. If you don’t already, I think you should give it a try.
