Two days ago we got a notice at work from the county saying the public works department was doing some valve repair whatnot on a nearby street, and our water would be shut off for four hours in the morning, from 8:00 until noon. This made me very unhappy, because I do not have a strong bladder under the best of circumstances. But I figured I would survive, mostly because I had lunch plans for today and so I would just use the restroom at the restaurant.
All this I did.
And when I left the office at 4:00? We still had no water. People were using the toilets anyway out of desperation, despite not being able to flush. And boy was it nasty. There is a first-aid kit in one of the bathrooms, and I went in there to get some alcohol wipes to use on my hands in lieu of being able to wash them. And what an unpleasant thing to see.
I'm absolutely parched now. I barely drank anything all day, in an effort to avoid having to pee. I feel like I could drink a gallon of water.
And water it is. I've been saving this up to report until I had a nice round number, and the time has come. Those of you who've seen me over the past few years know I need to lose weight quite badly. So I am dieting...and so far I've lost nearly ten pounds. Yay!
In non-related news, it is now officially winter in Florida. We've had a few nights where I woke up and there was frost on the grass. But mostly I know it's winter because the trunk of my car no longer stays up on its own. It does this every single year and I have no idea why. It only happens when it gets cold out. All I know for certain is that it is really, really, really annoying to load and unload groceries when I have to hold up the very bad word deleted trunk with one hand.
And I got a Christmas bonus! I never expected it. Apparently mine is very small because a) everyone's is smaller than normal years due to the economy, and b) I was hired very near the end of the fiscal year. This my boss told me as he handed me the envelope containing my check. Then I got back to my desk and opened the envelope and nearly fell over. If this is a small bonus, I can't wait to see what a "regular" one is! Now I get to do some actual Christmas shopping for people, and this makes me very happy.
