I want to say something but I don't know what, and I don't know how. Maybe I am just too scared to see what I am becoming, or maybe I would be too hasty in saying such things, and making such asumptions. Changes are deffinitely taking place right now though. I don't know what to do. I have stopped going to Calculus and Computer Science completely ( Read more... )

"My brain is only so large, and there is only so much a cluster of synapses can do."

Sympasis = The most romantic thing ever. In Prophase I of meiosis, the chromosomes come from far and wide in the cell to find their homologous partners, their mates.

I believe you meant Synapsis, unless that's another term I have forgotten. And indeed it is the most beautiful thing. Not only because it is a reference to true love, but because of the science involed. Nothing is more beautiful than seeing how frail our existance is. And knowing how lucky we are to freely roam the earth.

jef you think way too much. and that leads to stress - the last thing we need. besides, nothing really makes sense... i accepted that a while ago :P

I do indeed think too much, but thinking is what makes me happy. I don't get stressed out very often, I am actually one of the more relaxed people I know. And wasn't it you who I was telling last night not to worry so much. :p

Alright you science and math wankers, Daddy is here to put a little sense into all of this. All this talk about the limits of our brains, our synapses is all well and good; it is important to realize that as beings, our capacity for "doing" in general, is finite. But I think rather than taking this as something unfortunate and wanting to create artificial intelligence, it seems we should take a lesson from writers like Isaac Asimov and others, and realize that these robots would be only an extension of our limitations. They too, while superior, would be limited. The larger question is this, does a being's ability to think quickly, and think logically give it some greater value than other beings? If so, it would seem that we should value our hypothetical artificial life greater than ourselves, and I think most people will instantly recoil at this idea. The wisest thing to realize is that the things that will ultimately lead us to fulfillment in life are not always necessarily related to our ability to think faster or more ( ... )
