Jon left yesterday afternoon and at this moment has probably boarded his plane back to the United States. His journey is incredibly long. 4 hour train ride, 2 hour wait, 1 hour flight, 10 hour wait, 2 hour bus, 4 hour wait, 6 hour flight, and since he is flying to JFK, a 2 to 8 hour drive home, depending on the traffic. He has gotten through the worst of it by now. It was fun having him around. Most of this trip has been by myself. I've met people in hostels and I've been with old friends, but this was the first section of the trip where I've been with somebody I've know for more than 2 days or it hasn't been 3 years since I've seen then. I could talk about Maizie galore or tell inside jokes all I wanted. It was just a great time. Thanks for coming man, I really enjoyed it.
After Jon left I headed back over to the Grob's house for the evening. I hung out, talked, manned the grill (the steaks were near perfect), and generally enjoyed myself. I won't be staying overnight with them, but like I said, I'm not homeless. I'm spending one more night with the Margonis. When I put everything together I really was thinking the Grobs my have other things they need to do and it turns out, they do. So I stay here and make myself as unoticable as possible. I'm not imposing though. Gino was happy and Mr. Margoni said "Oh course!" when asked. I'm not sure what I'm going to do. I'll probably just hang around the house and relax. This whole trip, even this week, has been go go go. I'd like to just read a book today, maybe go for a short hike, but just relax.
The women of the Margoni household come home this evening. I'm not worried about anything, I am the only man here who can wash his own clothes. Mrs. Margoni is actually American born so it could be some interesting conversation. Gino should be home first anyway.
I may walk around Bern tomorrow afternoon. My train leaves at 20:50 so time is not an issue, but if I stayed in Biel until 18:30 or so I wouldn't have to buy a locker. We'll see.
The dinner with the Grobs on Friday I mentioned was a alot of fun. We had Rochlette which is a traditional Swiss dish of basically melted cheese and potatos. We have this little table top oven and with the cheese on a little tray you melt it in the oven. Melted cheese and potatos. You can cook bacon or chives or pickels with the cheese and it is all tasty. We talked and drank alot of wine with Jon and I leaving around quarter after ten. The problem was there is no train after tem pm on fridays and you have to take a bus. Luckily a girl told us this little factoid and we hopped the bus to Biel at 23:07. The oddness didn't end there though. The train we take to Gerolfigen wasn't running to Biel because some work was being done on the tracks and we had to take a bus part of the way until after the work and catch the train there. There was a sign, but as I've mention before I'm barely literate in German and the sign through me off. I've been in so many stations and never seen anything like it so I didn't know what to make of it. Jon was the one to figure it out and we made our way to the bus stop and found our way home. Did I mention it was raining most of the time? That was a wonderful capper. The weirdest thing about this area is I can see the Grob's house from Gino's and vis vesa, but I can't really get there without a big hassle. Pain in the ass.
I watched about the first half of The Getaway, the Peckinpaw one with Steve McQueen. Its great, but I've only seen the first half. Everytime its on its very late and I'm too tired. Anyone have the DVD?
(If you don't go to Penn State you may not get the joke of the next paragraph. Its funny to me and other like me, but its very inside. Give it a go if you'd like, but I thought I warn you.)
Jon and I came up with the NRT Brew Works the other day. Our flagship brand will be Ärkwürd Bräü ("Thats not funny, thats delicious"). There are many more such as Pormann Stoudt, Brewster Bräü, which is 10% by volume and comes in a 40 ("Drink 'till you're blind."), and Teäsbräü - the nonalcoholic beer "There is no way you're getting drunk and everyone knows but you." This will happen. Some party this year there will be Ärkwürd Bräü. Or at least t-shirts.
I'm sorry I havn't posted everyday this week.
How was All Good? Who is going to the Gathering of the Vibes?
Are they really trading Tejada? Goddamn Orioles.
I love and miss you all,
Matt
