I was under the table thinking "Damn, didn't save my work." But I was also remembering the Northridge quake and thinking that the ceiling could come down, and imagining what it would feel like to fall 2 stories. It wasn't too strong, but I have no idea how much force is takes to bring a building down.
When I was in Guatemala, I was sitting having breakfast with some people when the quake hit. The guy across from me... his eyes widened and he took the hell off out of the roofed patio into the nearby clearing. He was from Florida.
I continued eating my toast. It was not a very strong quake, which is lucky because we were in the worst imaginable area for it, a crater lake formed when a volcano blew it's top, with incredibly steep slopes that had already been damaged badly by a recent hurricane.

Tell the editor that was nothing, not even a 5.9! We LA-ers don't even get out of bed for something less than 6.0 ;)
