quake

5.8, epicenter in Chino Hills. Just about right under my parents' house. I am in Tarzana, 50+ miles away.

The last time I was in an earthquake was in Guatemala. This was fairly pronounced because I'm on the 3rd floor. We get a lot of little shakes here, mostly from trucks driving down Ventura Blvd., so no one noticed much until the shaking continued on past 10 seconds. Kind of a gentle but fast side to side motion, lasting about a minute. We actually got under the desk for that one. The editor, who is from New York, says he will now be moving back home. Funny that this is pretty commonplace for Angelenos, but must appear strange to people from other parts of the country/world. I imagine kids still go through earthquake drills in school, where they get under a table, hold onto a leg and protect their necks with a free hand. The only earthquake injury I ever witnessed was a kid in my day car who split his forehead open trying to get under the table.

Total adrenaline rush. Wooooo.

And Ghetto Radio is playing "You Shook Me All Night Long" because my coworker just called and dedicated it to L.A.

And Jeff called to make sure we are ok over here. Aww.
